Battle-Tested Ole Miss Baseball Marches On, Now Sets Sights on Auburn Super Regional

OXFORD, Miss. — It’s official: Ole Miss is headed to the Auburn Super Regional. The dates and times for the upcoming weekend’s best-of-three matchup will be announced Tuesday.

The Rebels learned their next postseason destination Monday night when Auburn defeated Milwaukee, 8-3, in the decisive game of the Auburn Regional, setting up an all-SEC showdown with a trip to the College World Series hanging in the balance.

Had Milwaukee pulled off the upset, Ole Miss would have hosted the Super Regional at Swayze Field. Instead, the Rebels will hit the road once again for the series on the Plains, where one team will punch its ticket to Omaha.

If there’s a team prepared for that challenge, it is Ole Miss.

The Rebels arrive in Auburn battle-tested after navigating one of the toughest regionals in the NCAA Tournament field. The Lincoln Regional was the only regional in the country featuring three nationally ranked teams, with Ole Miss joining host Nebraska and Arizona State in a loaded bracket.

Ole Miss opened the weekend with an instant postseason classic, outlasting No. 3-seed Arizona State 7-6 in a 14-inning marathon that stretched nearly five hours. The Rebels then turned around less than 24 hours later and knocked off regional host and No. 1-seed Nebraska, 6-3, in front of a packed Haymarket Park crowd.

Facing Arizona State once again in Sunday’s regional championship game, Ole Miss found itself in another tight battle. The Rebels didn’t play their cleanest baseball, but they continued to show the resilience that has defined their postseason run, grinding out a 5-4 victory to complete a perfect 3-0 weekend and secure the program’s second consecutive Super Regional appearance.

Now comes another familiar challenge.

Auburn enters the weekend as one of the nation’s top seeds and will enjoy home-field advantage, but Ole Miss has already proven throughout the Lincoln Regional that hostile environments and high-pressure situations won’t intimidate this club. Mike Bianco’s team has spent the last month responding to adversity, and the reward is an opportunity to play for a spot in Omaha.

The other Super Regionals are as follows:

Head coach Mike Bianco and select players will meet with the media Tuesday, and The Rebel Walk will be there to bring you complete coverage as the Rebels begin preparations for another postseason showdown.

The NCAA is expected to announce Super Regional dates, game times, and television assignments soon. As soon as those details become official, we’ll have everything you need to know right here.
