The Ole Miss basketball team got a lot bigger on Tuesday. After bringing in Jayveous McKinnis and Myles Burns, Ole Miss still had some needs head coach Kermit Davis wanted to address. One of those was finding an interior presence to be an anchor in the paint. With Theo Akwuba’s commitment, the Rebels now have that anchor.
As Ole Miss’ 2021-22 men’s basketball campaign comes to a close, the program’s leadership is already shifting its focus to next season and beyond. The Rebels finished the slate with a 13-19 record, marking just their third losing season in the last 16 years. Athletics Director Keith Carter and head coach Kermit Davis are focusing on the future.
The odds were against Ole Miss when the team traveled to play the Wildcats Tuesday, as the Rebels have only bested Kentucky twice in Lexington. Head coach Kermit Davis’ team fought hard but ultimately lost, 72-83, despite an outstanding performance from Matthew Murrell.
The Ole Miss women’s basketball team celebrates Senior Day today and will do so in the SJB Pavilion against the nation’s No. 1 team, South Carolina. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. tip airing nationally on SEC Network.
