‘No Place I’d Rather Be’: Hayden Federico Returning to Ole Miss Baseball for 2027

OXFORD, Miss. — Although Ole Miss baseball was eliminated in the first two games of the College World Series in Omaha, the Rebels do have plenty of good news to be excited about for the future. They’ve signed some key transfers — and as of Thursday, one pivotal current player announced he is returning.

Head coach Mike Bianco and staff earned their first official nod of loyalty in the form of a post from outfielder Hayden Federico, who stated via his social media accounts, “No place I’d rather be. Run it back @OleMissBSB”.

The switch-hitting West Monroe, Louisiana native became an impact player immediately during his freshman campaign in 2025, bursting onto the scene with an impressive non-conference showing.

Federico came into college as an infielder but worked his way into becoming a solid corner outfield option at the end of last year before entering his sophomore season this year as the team’s starting center fielder.

This season, Federico quickly became comfortable as the captain of the outfield, but started his year at the plate with a bit of luck not swinging his way. However, once conference play started, Federico began to find his groove and showed the offensive firepower from his freshman season.

One of the Rebels’ most consistent performers in 2026, Federico hit .302 while appearing in 63 games. Among the four Ole Miss players who played every game this season, he is the only one expected back next year after Judd Utermark, Will Furniss and Tristan Bissetta completed their collegiate careers.

Few players were as steady for Ole Miss throughout its College World Series season as Federico. The veteran finished among the Rebels’ leaders in nearly every major offensive category, posting a team-best .429 on-base percentage while hitting .302 and consistently setting the table at the top of the lineup.

That production naturally attracted outside attention. LSU, among others, pursued Federico after the season, but the standout outfielder chose to stay in Oxford. His return gives the Rebels a proven offensive piece alongside expected returners Owen Paino and Austin Fawley, and potentially Dom Decker as well.

While he filled his role of being an on-base machine and delivering with runners on base, he also matched his year-one total of four home runs on the season. Most importantly, Federico found his way on base, drawing 35 walks and 13 hit by pitches, in comparison to his 32 strikeouts. To top off a great offensive season, Federico made sure to swipe 12 bags as well, only being caught 4 times in 16 attempts.

Federico’s return will be crucial to Ole Miss as a veteran presence, a proven bat, and a glove that was showcased during playoffs.

Ole Miss will continue to stay busy in the retention scene as they look to hold as many players as they can to continue building a culture set for Omaha.
