Madi George Named NFCA Top-25 Finalist for Freshman of the Year
OXFORD, Miss. (Release)– Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Finalist for National Freshman of the Year, as announced by the organization on Thursday.
George becomes the third Rebel in program history to earn the distinction, joining Miali Guachino in 2025 and Hailey Lunderman in 2016. The freshman was one of seven selected to the prestigious list from the SEC.
It’s been an enormous season for George, who recently set the single-season program records for home runs (20) and total bases (125). The Leander, Texas native has surged to a .394 batting average, while tallying 20 home runs, seven doubles, 50 RBI and 25 walks. George is slugging .880 and also holds a team-high .491 on-base percentage.
George is on an a particularly torrid pace in recent weeks, tallying 10 home runs in her last nine games and four home runs in her last two games, headlined by two on Tuesday in a win over Southern Miss. George is one of two freshmen in the nation with 20 home runs, joining Oklahoma’s Kendall Wells and one of just 16 players in the nation with 20 blasts.
The Rebels are one of six teams to develop freshmen into NFCA Top-25 finalists in each of the last two seasons, joining Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, UCLA, and Virginia Tech.
On May 7, the list will be trimmed to the top 10 and the three finalists will be released on May 20. The winner will be revealed on May 26.
The Rebels open a three-game series at Auburn this weekend, with game one set for Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Game one will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
