Ole Miss Softball Falls to No. 6 Texas in SEC Tournament Quarterfinal
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Release)– The Ole Miss softball program saw its 2026 SEC Tournament run come to a close, falling 6-0 to No. 6 and fourth-seeded Texas on Thursday evening at John Cropp Stadium.
The Rebels (34-24, 6-18 SEC) were unable to hold off the high-powered Longhorns (40-10, 16-8 SEC) offense, falling into an early hole that they could not recover from.
After a scoreless first inning for both sides, the Longhorns were the first to strike, on a solo home run from Leighann Goode. The Rebels mounted a response effort in the third inning, as Tenly Grisham and Taylor Malvin each singled, but the Longhorns managed to escape unscathed.
Texas managed to extend the lead further in the third inning, adding three runs, before tacking on an additional two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 6-0.
The Rebels found some life in the seventh inning, as a fly ball off the bat of Madi George was dropped, allowing George to get to second base. Izzy Rettiger pinch ran for George and advanced to third on a passed ball, but the Rebels were unable to get her home from there and Texas pulled out the victory.
The attention now turns to the NCAA Tournament, as the Rebels await placement into the event. The NCAA selection show is slated for Sunday at 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2.
