Ole Miss Softball’s Season Comes to a Close in NCAA Regional Final at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas (Release)– The Ole Miss softball program saw its NCAA Tournament run come to a close, falling 14-2 to No. 3 ranked and 11th-seeded Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon at Tracey Sellers Field.

The Rebels (36-26, 6-18 SEC), were powered by another big game from Kennedy Bunker, who tallied a solo home run and a hit-by-pitch. However, the Red Raiders (55-6, 21-3 Big 12) offense proved to be too potent, as the hosts pulled away in the third inning.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Red Raiders were the first team to strike, dropping a two-run single into shallow right field to take an early advantage.

The lead ballooned for the hosts, as Texas Tech added eight runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 10-0 lead.

The Rebels would not give in, answering for two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Bunker continued her huge NCAA debut with a solo home run to cut the lead to 10-1. A Mackenzie Pickens walk and Persy Llamas hit-by-pitch gave the Rebels a further scoring opportunity and Cassie Reasner took advantage, driving in another run on an RBI double.

However, the Red Raiders offense proved to be too strong, as an additional run in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth put the game away.
