Ole Miss Softball Blanked by No. 17 Mississippi State

OXFORD, Miss. – (Release) Ole Miss softball fell to #17 Mississippi State 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.

The Rebels (15-7, 0-2 SEC) struggled offensively as they were kept without a hit in the contest. Jalia Lassiter drew a pair of walks, but the Bulldogs (19-3, 2-0 SEC) managed to keep Ole Miss off the board behind a strong pitching performance.

For the second straight day, Mississippi State did its damage early. The Bulldogs scored one run in the top of the first on a fielder’s choice after a pair of hits and made it 2-0 in the second with a sacrifice fly.

Walks in each of the first two innings put a runner on base for Ole Miss, but the Rebels couldn’t capitalize.

Mississippi State added two more runs in the fourth inning. A lead-off home run and a pair of doubles extended the Bulldogs’ lead to four and forced Ole Miss to turn to Catelyn Riley in the circle.

Riley pitched well, keeping MSU’s offense quiet for the final 3.2 innings of play. The junior only allowed one hit and struck out three, but the Ole Miss offense was unable to climb back into the contest and erase the four-run deficit.

The Rebels wrap up the series on Sunday, March 10. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT.
