Rebels Rising: Ole Miss Baseball Carries Momentum into Critical Tennessee Showdown

OXFORD, Miss. – After a series sweep over LSU, Ole Miss baseball now stands at 27-11 overall and No. 25 nationally, ahead of its series this weekend with Tennessee in Knoxville. The Rebels currently hold an 8-7 record in conference play, having won the last eight of their nine games, including a series win over No. 20 Florida and a win over No. 22 Southern Miss.

With five SEC series remaining on the season, Ole Miss should be a lock for postseason play. As of April 17, 2026, Ole Miss is positioned on the bubble for hosting a 2026 NCAA Baseball Regional, with recent projections from Baseball America placing them around the No. 14–30 national seed range (projects vary between 14th and 30th). Their status improved significantly following a sweep of LSU, but they face crucial upcoming SEC matchups that will solidify or diminish their position as a top-16 host.

Ole Miss’ record places the team at No. 7 in the conference, with plenty of their stats currently sitting around the middle of the SEC area as well.

One point of note, throughout 38 games this season, Ole Miss has acquired a .265 batting average, which, along with its number of hits and stolen bases, is one of its worst statistical categories. The Rebels rank No. 15 in the SEC with 316 hits, and the team’s 35 stolen bases place it at No. 13.

That being said, sitting a bit higher are the Rebels’ .399 on-base percentage and 260 runs, both at No. 11 in conference. If the OBP and number of runs say anything, it’s that Ole Miss makes its hits count. Looking towards the top, Ole Miss currently sits top-10 in the SEC in four categories: slugging (No. 9), RBIs (No. 9), on-base plus slugging (No. 8) and home runs (No. 7).

With a .460 SLG and .859 OPS, combined with 58 home runs, the Rebels have certainly proven that when they’re able to contact the ball, they’re going to make it significant. Even if it doesn’t go for a home run every time, the 244 RBIs are further proof of the Rebels’ ability to get the ball into the outfield and allow runners on base to make a play.

Although Ole Miss may not be hitting for a top-of-the-conference BA, opposing SEC teams have quickly learned that one hit is all it takes for the Rebels to take charge of a game.

Ole Miss has also done quite well from the mound, though, currently showcasing a 3.70 ERA, which is fourth-best in the league, with Auburn leading the way, holding a 3.30 ERA.

They haven’t been the best at shutting down opponents in terms of hits and batting average, allowing 288 total hits (No. 10 in the SEC) and allowing an opponent BA of .235 (No. 11 in conference). However, the Rebels have still managed to prevent opponents from scoring.

While Ole Miss has allowed 288 total hits, only 155 runs have been scored against the Rebels, which is fourth-best in the conference. To pair with this, the Rebels have also managed to secure 432 strikeouts, 114 of them with batters looking, which ranks No. 2 in all of the league.

With a +105-run differential on the season, the Rebels currently have the No. 7-best overall run differential in the SEC, with Texas A&M leading the way with an impressive +186.

Outfielder Tristan Bissetta, the Clemson transfer, has proven to be the Rebels’ most impactful player in the box thus far, recording a .340 BA to pair with 16 home runs and 42 RBIs this season. Third baseman Judd Utermark sits behind, holding a .307 BA with 13 HRs and 34 RBIs.

Hunter Elliott and Cade Townsend have been the stars on the mound for Ole Miss, having combined for 122 strikeouts and 10 HRs allowed through 81.3 innings pitched on the season.

Overall, the No. 25-ranked Rebels are in a good spot looking forward. They have everything they need to kick it into gear and finish out the season in fashion. Talent and experience will guide them through the four series remaining against ranked teams, with the final series for Ole Miss arriving in mid-May against a No. 11-ranked Alabama squad.

But for now, the Rebels have their sights set on the Volunteers, who can pitch well and arguably hit better. First pitch of the series is set for 5:30 p.m. CT in Knoxville on Friday.
