No. 17 Ole Miss Hosts Murray State on the Diamond in Mid-Week Action

OXFORD, Miss. — No. 17 Ole Miss baseball welcomes in the Murray State Racers into Swayze on Tuesday night. The first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be streamed on the SEC Network+.

Ole Miss (29-12, 10-8 SEC) is coming off a road series win over Tennessee after taking the first two games of the series on Friday and Saturday. It marked the first series victory over Tennessee since the 2018 season and the first in Knoxville since 2016.

Tristan Bissetta had a huge week last week, hitting a home run in all four games played, including each one against the Vols, en route to being named Co-SEC Player of the Week. He hit .500 with four home runs, three doubles, 10 RBI and seven runs scored.

Scouting Report

Under eighth-year head coach Dan Skirka, Murray State has developed into one of the more consistent and dangerous programs in its conference. The Racers have piled up more than 230 wins during his tenure, including a record-setting 44 victories last season — a year that also featured two wins over Ole Miss in the Oxford Regional.

That success carried all the way to Omaha, as Murray State reached the College World Series for the first time in program history while also claiming its first Missouri Valley Conference championship. This season, the Racers have picked up right where they left off, entering the week at 24-16 and holding the top winning percentage in the MVC.

Offensively, Murray State brings plenty of firepower, averaging seven runs per game. Senior infielder Luke Mistone has been the centerpiece of that production, leading the team with a .357 batting average and 38 RBIs. His standout performance came in March when he recorded five hits and drove in nine runs against Kentucky State. He’s complemented by Colby Ott and Kainen Jorge, with Jorge pacing the team in power with eight home runs.

Pitching matchup

On the pitching side, the Racers have shown the ability to dominate, recording three shutouts — the most in the MVC this season. However, that success hasn’t translated to midweek matchups, where they have yet to hold an opponent scoreless.

The pitching matchup today features RHP Owen Kelly (1-1, 3.66 ERA) for the Rebels, while Murray State will send Preston Chaudoin (0-0, 3.60 ERA) to the mound.

Game info

The first pitch of the game is set for 6:30 p.m. and fans not making out to Swayze can watch all the action on the SEC Network+.
