The victory on Sunday was over the No. 3 Florida Gators 4-1, but before that, the Rebels defeated No. 1 Auburn in the semifinals and Texas A&M, the No. 4 team in the conference, in the first round.
Following the tournament victory, Coach Malloy spoke with the media on Tuesday to discuss the achievement. He was asked about what it means for him to bring hardware back to the school.
“I love Ole Miss. I love it with all my heart. That’s what makes this even more special.“

Malloy spoke earlier in his media appearance about his feelings during the week and said he knew this week was special.
“I know people aren’t going to believe me, but when we showed up over in Sea Island — we got there on Monday — the practice rounds Tuesday, and walking off that practice round, I told only a couple of people, but I said it was gonna be a special week. And I don’t, those that know me, I don’t say that a whole lot. I’ve had that feeling twice ever. And then they go on this run. Just felt like a team of destiny.“

Malloy took over the head coaching position in 2014 and has turned Ole Miss into one of the better golf schools in the country, including earning a No. 1 overall ranking last year, and he’s about to embark on his tenth regional appearance in his twelve seasons at the helm.
Malloy is also frequently seen at sporting events around campus and exhibits his love for the school each time, including being a frequent visitor at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and has a great connection with head coach Pete Golding, which he discussed Tuesday.
“He’s one of my best friends. He’s great. And I actually had to text him back. I mean, he was locked into to that championship match and going back and forth…And that’s been really cool. And again, he’s one of my best friends. Our children are the same age, and we’re neighbors and spend a lot of time together. I’m going to caddy for him tomorrow over at the region’s pro-am. So, that’ll be interesting. I’ll be on him pretty good. But that’s been really cool. You know, golf’s a pretty unique sport that a lot of football coaches love golf and play golf. So, I get to spend probably a lot more time than the average coach around those guys and some of his assistant coaches. Again, they’re some of my closest friends.”

Selection day will be next Wednesday, May 6th, at 1 P.M. CT, where Malloy and Co. will find out their location for the regional round.
