BOOM! Coach Yo, Rebels Land Another Vol as Guard Jaida Civil Transfers to the ‘SIP

OXFORD, Miss. — Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the Ole Miss Rebels have dipped their metaphorical toes back into the Tennessee Volunteer water, this time landing transfer guard Jaida Civil.

We asked Civil why she chose Ole Miss and Coach Yo:

I chose Ole Miss because I know it’s gonna be a place where I can grow and potentially be a pro at. And I know Coach Yo will push me a lot. She’s gonna coach me just like how my high school coach did — just pushed me to be the best that I can be so that’s why I choose Ole Miss, specifically.

Jaida Civil

Civil, a six-foot native of Vero Beach, FL, averaged 6.4 points, four rebounds, and 1.5 assists in her first season at the collegiate level. She shot 41.5 percent from the field and 28.8 percent from three, good numbers that can easily be built upon. Civil played in 30 games, starting 10 last season for the Volunteers.

Civil’s best game came against the then 11th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. In that game, she had 21 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists, an offensive explosion. Civil is listed as a guard, but spent time playing on the wing as well. She is effective at both positions, but her size at the guard position allows her to bring something unique to the table. She plays much bigger than her listed height of six feet, beating out centers for rebounds at times.

Civil was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and the number 14 overall player in the country. She was a highly decorated recruit, having a plethora of awards, including:

  • McDonald’s All-American (2025)
  • Florida Gatorade Player of the Year (2025)
  • Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball (2025)
  • MaxPreps Florida Girls High School Basketball Player of the Year (2025)
  • Jersey Mike’s Naismith All-America Honorable Mention (2025)
  • FLORIDA TODAY All-Space Coast Girls Basketball Player of the Year (2024, 2025)
  • FLORIDA TODAY All-Space Coast First Team (2024, 2025)
  • FACA 4A District 12 Player of the Year (2024, 2025)

Civil is a tough shot maker. She is not afraid of contact and is more than willing to drive into the lane and score a tough layup. She is also an effective three-point shooter. The best aspect of her game is her toughness. She beats people for rebounds and forces her way inside, no matter who is standing in the paint. Her size and length are certainly an advantage for her game, allowing her to suffocate opposing guards.

Coach Yo getting a player like Civil is not only a look to the present, but an even bigger one to the future. She has three years of eligibility left and is already in a good spot developmentally. The Coach Yo player development factory will certainly do wonders for Civil and allow her to have the potential to do something really special in the SEC.
