OXFORD, Miss. — On Friday, head men’s basketball Chris Beard presented his first “Fireside Chat” at Ole Miss, and his guest was former Rebel star Marshall Henderson. The two visited in the Grove in the approximately 15-minute long video.

Henderson, an Ole Miss legend, played in Oxford from 2012-2014 and helped his team win its 2013 SEC Tournament Championship.

Coach Beard is very familiar with Marshall as he actually recruited him in the past, and the two have a longstanding relationship.

The new men’s basketball coach initiated Fireside Chats, as he has in the past, as a way to get closer to the Ole Miss students he hopes will enthusiastically support the program. He indicated in the video he and his assistants will be on hand at the Tuohy Center at 8:00 a.m. (CT) to meet students, with the first 15 receiving a free Ole Miss basketball shirt.

As for Henderson, he gave some advice to Rebels beginning school.

I would say, get close to people who are successful. Your professors, someone like that and really try and study them because you can help yourself earlier out of college. I’m 32 and I’m probably where I should’ve been four or five years ago.
