Ole Miss makes the cut for 4-star ATH Kamron Mikell

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels continue to make a strong impression on the nation’s top recruits as the athletes begin to narrow down their list of schools. One of those is Class of 2024 4-star ATH Kamron Mikell.

The rising senior has seen reps at quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive back, excelling at all of those positions. Earlier this week, the Statesboro, Georgia native released the list of the current schools he is considering, and Ole Miss made the cut.

The Rebels offered Mikell back in October of 2022.

Joining the Rebels on Mikell’s list are: Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Duke, Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia Southern, Florida State, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, and East Carolina.

Of course, the Rebels will face some tough competition in this recruiting cycle. While Mikell is focusing on these schools, he states his recruitment is still “100% open.”

We asked Mikell what helped put Ole Miss in his list of top schools.

[Ole Miss has] a great history of putting players in the league…and that beautiful blue.

4-star ATH Kamron Mikell

Kamron noted the importance of Coach Kiffin reaching out to him, personally. “…Well, lately, we haven’t been talking as much but Coach Kiffin texts me from time to time. And if head coaches are texting, they really want you,” he says.

Scouting Kamron

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is ranked the No. 35 ATH in the class of 2024 and No. 40, overall, regardless of position, in Georgia.

Let’s just say Mikell brings new meaning to triple threat as he plays football, track and baseball. On the gridiron, his versatility at different positions is also a plus. He is projected to play defensive back in college but says he will play wherever he is needed.

‘It really does not matter to me. I just want to play,’ Mikell said in an interview last year with WSAV in Statesboro.

Mikell will bring tremendous athleticism paired with wicked speed to whichever program he ultimately calls home. It is evident that playing three sports has really shaped his development and abilities.

Notables

During his sophomore season, Mikell earned GHSA AAAAAA state honors in track, claiming the bronze medal in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

His times in the 100-meter dash were impressive: 10.50, 10.59, 10.69, 10.79 and 10.99. In the 200-meter dash, his notable season times were 22.09 and 21.69.

I had an opportunity to see Mikell at the All American Bowl National Combine in San Antonio earlier this month. Suffice it to say, I was not the only person impressed by his speed.

The multi-sport talent who plays guard on the basketball team also helped lead his team to its first regional title in five seasons.

On the gridiron in 2021, Mikell made the Georgia Region 2 AAAAAA first team as a quarterback. In 10 games, he averaged 7.7 yards per carry, rushing for 1,083 yards and five touchdowns. He also passed for 465 yards and seven more scores while completing just over 41 percent of his pass attempts.

Mikell tells us he will try to get to Ole Miss during the spring, but isn’t quite sure of the schedule yet. One thing he is sure of is where the Rebels can find him this offseason.

“On the track, on the field, on the court, and in the classroom,” he says.

You can bet Ole Miss wants to remain in the hunt for one of Georgia’s most versatile and well-rounded prospects. The Rebel Walk will stay in touch with this talented recruit and keep you up to date on Mikell’s recruitment.

Herring-Olvedo sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
