Ole Miss baseball signees Jackson Ferris, Roman Anthony selected on opening day of MLB Draft

Sunday night ushered in the 2022 MLB Draft, and two Ole Miss baseball signees were drafted. Jackson Ferris, a left-handed pitcher, was drafted in the second round (47th overall) by the Chicago Cubs. Outfielder Roman Anthony was selected 79th overall (free agent compensation pick) by the Boston Red Sox.

Ferris, considered the No. 2 left-handed pitcher in the 2022 class according to Perfect Game, spent his last two high school seasons in Florida playing at IMG Academy.

Ferris, who turned 18 in January, was 8-0 with a 1.33 ERA in 10 games while striking out 103 hitters against only 15 walks in 54.1 innings during his season season at IMG Academy.

He is also ranked as the No. 9 overall player by Perfect Game. The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder boasts a 96 mile-per-hour fastball.

So what will Ferris do? Will he start his MLB career or head to Oxford to play for the National Champion Rebels? The slot money for the 47th pick sits at $1.66 million.

Roman Anthony

Roman Anthony hit .520 in his senior year, adding 10 home runs, 40 RBI and 21 stolen bases.

Anthony, Florida’s Gatorade Player of the Year, is ranked the No. 4 outfielder in the 2022 class, as well as the No. 14 player overall by Perfect Game. He’s also ranked the No. 4 player in the state of Florida.

The MLB slot money for the 79th pick comes in at $820,00.

The MLB Draft continues Monday with Rounds 3-10 and will conclude Tuesday with the final 10 rounds.
