BOOM! Lane Kiffin, Rebels land commitment from Tupelo CB Iverson McCoy: ‘When I took the OV it just felt like home’
AUSTIN — The Ole Miss Rebels are on fire this recruiting season, and they just made a major splash with the commitment of 2026 Tupelo cornerback Iverson McCoy.
McCoy told us when he knew he wanted to be a Rebel.
“When I took the OV (official visit) and it just felt like home.”

Kicking off July with back-to-back commitments, head coach Lane Kiffin and staff are proving the Rebels are serious about securing impact players—and they’re keeping top talent right in their own backyard. As we like to say around here, “Sip Made, Sip Stayed!”
McCoy, who stands as the No. 46 corner in the 2026 class and the No. 18 athlete in Mississippi, was previously committed to the Bulldogs before choosing to join forces with Ole Miss.
We caught up with McCoy and he told us why he chose Ole Miss.
“It was the people and the coaches!“

His stats from last season speak volumes about his ability; with 65 tackles, 12 pass breakups (PBUs), three interceptions (INTs), and one forced fumble (FF), he played a pivotal role in leading Tupelo to a perfect 14-0 season and clinching the Mississippi 7A Championship.

But it’s not just football where McCoy shines—he’s also a track and field standout. This past season, he made waves as a state qualifier in not one but three events: triple jump (TJ), high jump (HJ), and long jump (LJ). With impressive marks of 45-0.5 in the TJ, 6-4 in the HJ, and 22-4 in the LJ, it’s clear that he’s an all-around athlete who knows how to perform under pressure.
The Fit In The Sip
Bringing home McCoy is more than just adding another name to the roster; it reflects Ole Miss’ commitment to nurturing local talent. Having watched him play these past few seasons, here’s what stands out:
McCoy brings physicality and explosiveness, making him a formidable force on the field. With his impressive ability to navigate off-man coverage, he doesn’t just defend; he orchestrates the game. He skillfully passes off assignments while masterfully rerouting opposing players like a seasoned conductor leading an orchestra.

His lightning-fast instincts in run support allow him to maintain perfect balance as an open-field tackler—making him not just a defender but a game-changer. This versatility hints at his immense potential to rise as an impact player when the spotlight shines upon him.
As we gear up for what promises to be an exciting Fourth of July weekend filled with more key commitments on the horizon, one thing is clear: McCoy’s decision to stay home keeps one of Mississippi’s best athletes right where he belongs.
Herring-Olvedo sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.
With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.
That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.
Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.
In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.
Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.
For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
