Ole Miss Adds Depth in Secondary with Hawaii Transfer Isreal Solomon

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss football kicked off summer recruiting with a bang. On Sunday, the Rebels added depth to their defensive backfield in the form of Hawaii transfer Isreal Solomon.

Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds, Solomon may not be a household name yet, but don’t let that fool you. Despite limited opportunities at Colorado—where he redshirted as a true freshman—and more recently at Hawaii, he embodies the underdog spirit every team craves. A former Junior Olympic boxer, Solomon has faced adversity head-on and emerged stronger—a testament to his resilience and potential as a breakout athlete.

While his collegiate performance is still unfolding, one thing is clear: Solomon’s journey through injuries and tough recruitment challenges showcases his tenacity. Having played in not one but two of the nation’s toughest high school leagues makes him a hidden gem for the Rebels. He brings not only remarkable speed but also physicality—exactly what Ole Miss needs to bolster its secondary this offseason.

Before stepping onto the college scene, Solomon honed his skills at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in California’s elite Trinity League. Unfortunately, he suffered a labrum tear during his first game that set him back temporarily. But athletes like Solomon don’t give up easily; he bounced back by enrolling at IMG Academy in Florida, where he made an impressive comeback as the defensive captain. During his senior season alone, he recorded 45 tackles, 4 interceptions (INTs), 5 pass breakups (PBUs), and 2.5 sacks—numbers that speak volumes about his capabilities on the field.

From what I’ve seen so far, this is definitely someone to get excited about. His boxing background shines through in how he uses spatial awareness to read plays effectively. With lightning-fast speed and meticulous footwork, Solomon is poised to become a formidable force against SEC offenses.

Both the Rebels and Solomon understand what it means to be underestimated—but they continue to prove critics wrong through sheer determination and hard work. We had the opportunity to catch up with Isreal following his commitment announcement on Sunday.

We asked what drew him most to Ole Miss.

Really the coaches—they believe in my abilities and share one goal: winning! I’m eager to collaborate with my DB coach and defensive coordinator.”

Navigating the world of transfer recruitment can often feel like a whirlwind, but authenticity matters. Solomon highlighted what truly set the Ole Miss coaching staff apart in their approach to recruiting him.

They were just real. The coaches never changed who they were and genuinely want the best for you!”

For athletes, finding the right fit is crucial, and Solomon knows that Ole Miss embodies a style of play that aligns perfectly with his skills.

They play aggressively on defense, which is exactly how I know how to play. I fly around the field, hitting hard and always getting to the ball—that’s my game!

Every athlete’s journey is unique, but for Isreal, it became clear Ole Miss was where he could finally make his mark at the collegiate level. He’s ready to bring his A-game.

I’m bringing speed, consistency, and an unwavering determination—I’m all in for this school! I already love Mississippi!

Herring-Olvedo sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
