Reports | Ole Miss set to hire Texas’ Billy Glasscock as Rebels’ new general manager

OXFORD, Miss. — Just days after the Rebels saw former Ole Miss football general manager Austin Thomas leave for Baton Rouge, head coach Lane Kiffin has found a replacement. The Rebels are hiring Texas director of player personnel Billy Glasscock as the team’s new GM, as first reported by Chris Low of ESPN.

Glasscock left his role as Director of Player Personnel at North Carolina State, one he had held since 2017, to take the position at Texas in February 0f 2021. At NC State, Glasscock was responsible for the direction of all recruiting activities as well as overseeing the staff. In 2014, while at the University of Minnesota, Glasscock was named one of the top five National Directors of Recruiting Operations of the year.

Joe Cook of Inside Texas has high praise for Glasscock’s efforts with the Longhorns.

Glasscock was one of the bigger contributors behind the scenes in Texas’ recent recruiting efforts that saw the Longhorns land three straight top-6 classes and highly-ranked portal hauls. The Longhorn roster is as healthy as it’s been since the mid-2000s heyday of Mack Brown thanks in part to Glasscock’s work as the director of player personnel.

With Glasscock as Director of Player Personnel, Texas notched three-straight Top 10 recruiting classes. The Horns also brought in four five-star recruits during Glasscock’s tenure. But he’s not just adept with high school recruiting; Glasscock has made a name for himself in the transfer portal as well.

Some of the notable transfers to Texas include: 4-star WR Matthew Golden, 4-star EDGE Trey Moore, 4-star CB Andrew Mukuba, 4-star WR Isaiah Bond, 4-star TE Amari Niblack, and 4-star LB Kendrick Blackshire.

Glasscock and his wife Amanda have twin daughters, Ava and Maddie.
