Indiana Transfer Safety Louis Moore Excited to be an Ole Miss Rebel: ‘It’s just something that I couldn’t pass up to be a part of’

OXFORD, Miss. — On December 11th, 2023, Ole Miss fans around the country opened their phones to see that a safety out of Indiana University had committed to Ole Miss, but what many did not know was that Pete Golding and his defense were gaining one of the most physical players in the country.

Before we dive into Moore’s collegiate success, it’s important to recognize that his journey took patience, grit, and lots of determination. Coming out of high school, the Texas native attended Navarro Community College in Corsicana, Texas, from 2020–2021, where he played both wide receiver and safety.

Moore said that even though he didn’t pursue his career as a receiver, playing the position in college proved to come with quite a few benefits.

I understand what routes come from different formations and stuff like that, and then knowing my coverage, I almost know what is coming.

Following two years at Navarro, Moore committed to Indiana, and despite appearing in all 12 games as a junior, he only recorded tackles in five of them.

I just had to wait my turn and wait for my opportunity,” Moore said. “That’s what separated me. It was known what I could do at Indiana that first year, I just had to wait for my opportunity. I kept working hard, staying true to myself, and it finally came.

Moore’s hard work pays off

In 2023, everything Moore had worked for started to pay off. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound stud recorded 83 total tackles, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and a pass deflection for Indiana. With 83 tackles and three interceptions, he also finished in the top 15 for both categories out of all Big 10 players. To conclude his time as a Hoosier, Moore decided to put his name in the transfer portal.

Upon entering the portal, he was immediately contacted by Ole Miss, Ohio State, North Carolina State, and UCLA. Louis described the transfer process along with why he chose to commit to Ole Miss.

“I wasn’t trying to stay in the portal for too long. When I hit the portal, I wanted to be in for a week or two,” Moore said.

I chose Ole Miss because of the progress they had last year, and seeing the team we have now, it’s just something that I couldn’t pass up to be a part of.

Additionally, I asked Louis if defensive coordinator Pete Golding had any sort of impact on where he would be playing, and he told me this:

He played a big role in my recruitment. He’s true to his words, he talks with emotion and feelings, and it really won me over. Asking around, everyone knows of him, his defense, and his style of success. To be able to learn from him is something special.

To conclude our interview, Louis described to me what his experience has been like as an Ole Miss Rebel with a brand new set of coaches and teammates.

So far, I’m liking it. The competition I’m going up against is different. It’s competitive. I’m getting pushed, and I’m looking forward to doing more than what I did last season. To do it in the Big 10, and then come here to do it in the SEC, I feel like that will solidify my case for who I am and what I say I am.”
