OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss women’s basketball head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin speaks frequently about the importance of giving, often donating her time and resources to the local community she loves — and that loves her right back.

Although she’s busy getting ready to follow up her Rebels’ Sweet 16 season, CoachYo is never too busy to help others.

In her latest outreach endeavor, Coach Yo’s #NoCeilings with Coach Yo Foundation is joining with Oxford and Ole Miss legend DK Metcalf and the Metcalf Family Foundation.

Metcalf is a star wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, and his father, Terrence Metcalf, is a former All-American offensive lineman for the Rebels. The elder Metcalf is currently the head football coach at Coahoma Community College.

Together, Coach Yo and DK have put together a Back-to-School Drive where they will give backpacks and school supplies to local children, ages 13 and under, who are in grades K-6th.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a few years,” Coach Yo explained to The Rebel Walk.

I have come to love Oxford and just wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t give back, especially to people who have a need.

Metcalf, too, is eager to help the kids of his hometown community.

Once DK (Metcalf) got word about this, he immediately jumped in and wanted to be a part of it. That goes to show the type of person he is — a winner!

With both their foundations firmly committed to helping others, Coach Yo says, “It just made sense that both he (DK) and I get together to do this.”

Distribution dates for backpacks and supplies will be as follows:

  • July 25, 2023:  CB Webb in Oxford, 6:00 – 7:30 PM
  • July 26, 2023:  Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, MS, 6:00 – 7:30 PM

Coach Yo’s generosity of spirit is always evident. “You can’t be somewhere and not serve,” she tells us. “This is only the beginning.”

As her team is coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, we have a feeling it’s only the beginning — off and on the court for Coach Yo and the Rebels. #Next
