Ole Miss women’s basketball enters Top 25 for first time since 2007

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss women’s basketball is ranked in this week’s Associated Press Top 25, making its season-debut in the poll at No. 24.

The Rebels are 17-2 overall, 5-1 in the SEC, and off to the team’s best start in league play since the 2009-2010 season.

This is the first time Ole Miss has been ranked since 2007 — a 15-year drought.

“Fifteen years is crazy,” said head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin.

I told them before the Kentucky game that I had been downplaying the whole ranking deal and I apologized to them for that. I didn’t think it was fair of me. I said if you want to get ranked, go ahead and beat Kentucky and get ranked.”

And that they did!

On Sunday, her team earned another road win, defeating No. 23 Kentucky, 63-54, in Rupp Arena and pushing their road record this season to 7-0.

The victory over the Wildcats marked the second win of the season for the Rebels over a ranked team.

Next up:

The Ole Miss at South Carolina game postponed on January 2 has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 27. The tip time and broadcast information will be announced later in the week.

Then, the Rebels return home for a matchup with No. 13 Georgia next Sunday (Jan. 30) from the SJB Pavilion. Tipoff versus the Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m. CT on SEC Network +.
