Ole Miss’ Corral Named Walter Camp Player of the Year Semifinalist
Rebel QB Has 26 Total Touchdowns on the Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – (Release) Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral has been named one of 15 “Players to Watch” for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Thursday. The list of semifinalists includes eight quarterbacks, four defensive players, two running backs and one wide receiver. Thirteen different schools and six conferences are represented on the list. The junior from Ventura, California, has completed 66 percent of his passes for 2,527 yards and 16 touchdowns, with just two interceptions. Corral also leads the Rebels on the ground with 528 rushing yards and 10 TDs. The 10 rushing TDs are the third-most ever by a Rebel quarterback in a single season. He ranks No. 8 in the FBS in total offense (339.4). Corral is one of only two quarterbacks nationally with at least 15 passing TDs and 10 rushing touchdowns this season. The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors. A list of five finalists will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 2, and the winner announced on ESPN’s College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 9.
