Ole Miss Baseball Stays Put in Rankings, Turns Focus to Critical Week Ahead
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball let a series slip away over the weekend, but the damage in the national picture proved minimal.
The Rebels had their chances against No. 5 Georgia but couldn’t close it out, ultimately dropping two of three after the Bulldogs claimed Sunday’s finale, 5-1. The loss halted Ole Miss’ streak of three consecutive SEC series victories.
Still, when the updated rankings were released Monday, there was little movement.
Ole Miss held its ground in both major polls, remaining No. 17 in the D1Baseball rankings and No. 22 in the Baseball America Top 25 despite the series loss.
The Rebels went 2-2 on the week, picking up a midweek win over Murray State before the weekend battle with Georgia. Even with the series loss, Ole Miss continues to sit in a strong position from a metrics standpoint, currently ranked No. 11 in the RPI with a 10-11 mark in Quad 1 games.
There are ten Southeastern Conference teams in this week’s D1 Baseball rankings: Texas (4), Georgia (5), A&M (7), Auburn (8), Mississippi State (10), Oklahoma (15), Ole Miss (17), Arkansas (22), Alabama (24), and Florida (25).Â
Now, another critical stretch awaits.
Ole Miss has four more Quad 1 opportunities this week, beginning with the Governor’s Cup matchup against in-state rival Mississippi State. The Bulldogs enter ranked No. 10 with an RPI of 15, setting up a high-stakes neutral-site showdown Tuesday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
From there, the Rebels head back into SEC play with a road trip to Fayetteville, where No. 22 Arkansas (RPI: 30) awaits for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CT.
With postseason positioning continuing to take shape, the week presents a valuable chance for Ole Miss to strengthen its résumé against top-tier competition.
