Marshall Henderson signs camp deal with Kings

The NBA may have just become a lot more interesting–especially for Ole Miss fans. Former Rebels standout Marshall Henderson has signed a training camp deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to Yahoo Sport’s Marc Spears who tweeted the following late Thursday evening:

Henderson played the previous two seasons in the Middle East, having successful showings in both Qatar and Iraq.

The 6-foot-2 guard ended his career at Ole Miss with a 3-pointer in an SEC-record 66-straight games and is ranked third in Ole Miss history in 3-pointers with 267 from long range. He also finished third in school history in free throw percentage (.857) and sixth in scoring average (19.6 ppg). Henderson holds the SEC record with 138 three-pointers made in a season.

Marshall’s sister, Paige, is a senior at Ole Miss and one of his biggest supporters. She has watched her brother achieve levels that few outside of Oxford, Miss. thought possible. But it seems like Marshall is always proving folks wrong.

On Thursday evening Paige, a writer for The Rebel Walk, posted this on her personal Facebook page:

“What you intended to harm me, God intended for good.” –Genesis 50:20

“With every negative comment ever said about you, you always brushed it off. You learned to deal, as well as you could, with all of the torment. People misunderstood you and didn’t always know the full story. But I’ve been blessed to be your biggest fan from the moment I recognized I was your annoying little sister. You’ve always stood up for me, even when other schools bashed me as well. I am so proud of you and what you have accomplished. Regardless of what the media says, the mistakes and steps backwards do not define you. I will continue to pray for you all of my life, but I’m excited to watch this opportunity unfold. Take your talent and rely on God to lead you to the next chapter in your life! I love you, Bubba!”

Though it is unlikely that Marshall Henderson has ever met Muhammed Ali, it is entirely probable the two would have a mutual appreciation for one another if they ever did. Ali once said:

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing. — Muhammed Ali

While his training camp invite does not mean a spot on the Kings’ roster, it does mean Marshall has a shot at it. Henderson has been doing the impossible for years now–and we wish him the best as he pursues his NBA dreams with Sacramento.

Hotty Toddy, Marshall!
