No. 15 Ole Miss Baseball Run-Rules UT Martin in Final Midweek Matchup; Judd Utermark Breaks Home-Run Record
OXFORD, Miss. — The No. 15 Ole Miss Rebels defeated the UT Martin Skyhawks in dominant 17-6, run-rule fashion in their final regular-season midweek game at Swayze Field.
Ole Miss controlled from the opening pitch with Wil Libbert taking the mound for his start since March 21 against the Kentucky Wildcats. He finished the day with 3 innings pitched, 3 hits allowed, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
However, the story of the night was the Rebels’ offense that exploded for 12 runs in the first two innings. Third baseman Judd Utermark opened the scoring with a record-breaking two-run home run in the first inning to give him the Ole Miss all-time home run record, surpassing Kyle Gordon, who held the record for 39 years.
HE’S DONE IT.

Those would be the only two runs of the first inning, but Ole Miss soon exploded for 10 runs in the second, started and ended by catcher Austin Fawley, who drove in the first two RBIs of the inning with a single, and capped off the scoring with a two-run home run, making it 12-0 Ole Miss.

UT Martin scraped another run across in the fifth after holding the Ole Miss offense scoreless, when an errant throw on a double steal attempt allowed TJ Grines to cross the plate and make it 15-2 Rebels.
Ole Miss continued their dominant night at the plate when Brett Moseley connected with the first pitch he saw and crushed it the other way for a solo home run to extend the Rebels lead to 16-2.

UT Martin did not go out without a fight as they nearly diminished the run-rule total in the sixth, putting 4 runs across the board. The first came from Tommy Koch, who sent a two-RBI single through the infield. Grines followed with an RBI single before the inning was capped off when Bo Strickland drew a walk to bring in the final run of the inning, making it 16-6 Ole Miss.
Ole Miss reissued some cushion for the run-rule in the bottom half of the inning when Brayden Randle reached on an error, allowing the Rebels to extend the lead to 17-6.
Ole Miss headed into the seventh needing just three outs without allowing more than two runs, and Noah Allen got the call from the bullpen. Allen escaped the inning unscathed to secure the 17-6 victory.
