Ole Miss Offers Nation’s No. 1 2027 Defensive Lineman, Jalen Brewster: ‘Every offer is a blessing coming from God’
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss football is tapping into Texas’ rich reservoir of talent, aiming to fortify the Rebels’ defensive trenches for the future. Last week, they set their sights on Jalen Brewster, the No. 1 defensive lineman in the class of 2027, a composite five-star, who hails from Cedar Hill High School.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at a formidable 290 pounds, this Navy All-American is currently ranked as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 11 overall prospect in the country. He is also the No. 2 overall player to emerge from the Lone Star State for 2027.
With over 25 scholarship offers already flooding in, Brewster’s recruitment is heating up. In addition to Ole Miss, he holds offers from: Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M Texas Tech, USC, Arizona State, Baylor, Jacksonville State, Memphis, North Texas Purdue, San Diego State, Tulsa and UTSA, among others.
The pressure is on for Rebel defensive line coach Randall Joyner and the staff as they work to continue to bring more elite Texas talent to Oxford.
The Quick Scout
Picture a blend of former defensive standouts Walter Nolen and JJ Pegues donning Rebel colors—and that’s what Jalen Brewster brings to the table as he approaches his junior season.
What truly sets Brewster apart is his astonishing ability to pivot with lightning speed. He has undeniable functional strength. Further, his play on the field is backed up by impressive combine testing numbers that speak volumes about his athletic prowess.

Brewster possesses a combination of intellect and physicality. He not only understands the game, but he is able to apply his knowledge dynamically on the field. With an innate ability to set the edge, he stands as a strong barrier against any offensive advance. His heavy inside hand technique is impressive, allowing him to control the action with precision and authority.
But that’s not all—his stack-and-shed strength is exceptional, enabling him to effortlessly disengage from blockers and make impactful plays. He is a blend of power, strategy, and finesse that keeps opponents guessing. His explosive power and disruptive play style make him an intimidating force on the field.

We recently caught up with this blue-chip prospect to discuss his Ole Miss offer and what it means for him moving forward.
“Every offer is a blessing coming from God,” Brewster shared thoughtfully.
Navigating through numerous top-tier programs can be overwhelming; however, he emphasized that he seeks a program that prioritizes “the culture and life after college ball.”
While each school vying for Brewster’s attention is making its mark, the Lone Star talent noted that what stood out most about Ole Miss is, “the way Coach Joyner and I connected while talking throughout the day.”
As interest continues to swirl around him, two schools appear to be making significant strides: the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oregon Ducks. But Coach Joyner and company clearly see what Brewster could bring to the defense. And when we asked Brewster what skills he could contribute to Ole Miss’ front lines, he confidently stated: “I would say my athleticism and my ability to read blocks.”
So get your popcorn ready, Rebels! This recruitment could get interesting!
Herring-Olvedo sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.
With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.
That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.
Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.
In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.
Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.
For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
