Profiles of the 2025 Ole Miss Transfer Class: Introducing Arkansas defensive back Jaylon Braxton

OXFORD, Miss. – With the conclusion of the 2025 winter transfer portal window, the Ole Miss transfer class ranks No. 2 in the nation and includes several future NFL Draft picks. As we inch closer to the start of spring practice in just six days, The Rebel Walk is highlighting these players and their effectiveness on the field so fans can get to know the newcomers.
Check out our profiles on Arkansas offensive linemen Patrick Kutas and Charlotte offensive lineman PJ Wilkins along with LSU transfer defensive end Da’Shawn Womack.
To continue, let’s introduce Lane Kiffin’s first defensive back recruit from the class, Jaylon Braxton.
Braxton’s career prior to Ole Miss
Braxton finished his high school football career at Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, where NFL players Marvin Mims, Jaylon Ford, Nick Bolton, and Trey Taylor all attended. In an interview with The Rebel Walk, Braxton explained that playing football in Texas was a huge benefit in his transition to the SEC.

A consensus four-star prospect according to 247Sports, Rivals, ESPN, and On3, Braxton was rated as the No. 8 cornerback nationally and the No. 9 player in Texas. He played on both sides of the ball in high school, as well as returned kickoffs.
During his senior year, he caught 41 passes for 566 yards and six touchdowns, and also completed a pass for a 10-yard touchdown. He finished the season with 27 tackles, including one for loss, 10 pass breakups, and five interceptions. Additionally, he blocked one field goal, returned eight punts for 99 yards and a touchdown, and had one kick return for 55 yards.
The top-200 prospect chose to begin his college career at Arkansas over Baylor, Illinois, LSU, Miami, and many others. In his first year in 2023, Jaylon was named to the Freshman All-SEC team, recording 21 total tackles, one interception, and a forced fumble. Despite battling injury in 2024, Braxton is back to full strength upon his arrival in Oxford and is expected to be a difference maker from day one.
2025 Impact
Braxton is an early enrollee who arrived on campus in January, and he should make his presence felt immediately when spring practices begin. Similar to a majority of the positional groups from 2024, the Ole Miss secondary is losing quite a few key pieces due to the NFL Draft and transfer portal. Whether it be Trey Amos, John Saunders, Trey Washington, Jadon Canady, Yam Banks, or Louis Moore, nearly every starting spot is up for grabs at this point.

Having multi-year SEC experience with his 6-foot-0, 190-pound frame, Braxton is expected to be a crucial part of Pete Golding’s defense in 2025 and beyond. Wearing No. 11, the redshirt sophomore will have three years of eligibility left to play.
