Ole Miss Drops Game One of Series to Georgia, 17-6

ATHENS, Ga. – (Release) Ole Miss Baseball (20-17, 5-11 SEC) dropped the first game of its series against No. 23 Georgia (28-9, 8-8 SEC) Friday night 17-6.

Ole Miss opened the game with two home runs in the first inning, started by a solo blast over the batter’s eye by Andrew Fischer, his 14th of the season. Ethan Lege doubled in the next at bat and then Will Furniss hit a missile to left field to make it 3-0 early.

Georgia picked up an unearned run in each of the first two innings and cut the Rebel lead to just one after two complete.

After the Rebels went down in order in the third, Georgia broke things wide open with an eight-run third inning. They hit two home runs, were hit by two pitches, and took advantage of a Rebel error in the outburst. The Bulldogs led 10-3 when all was said and done.

Ole Miss got three runs back in the top of the fourth inning on an Eli Berch two-RBI double and a Luke Hill RBI-single to make it 10-6.

Georgia used three hits and a sacrifice bunt to immediately answer back with two more runs of their own and take a six-run lead into the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs added one more in the sixth before Slate Alford dealt the finishing blow in the eighth with a walk-off grand slam.

The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. CT to decide the series.
