Mississippi State transfer CB Decamerion Richardson commits to Ole Miss; started every game last two years for the Bulldogs

OXFORD, Miss. — Lane Kiffin, Pete Golding and Ole Miss turned to the transfer portal, yet again, to fill an area of need with an experienced SEC player as starting Mississippi State cornerback Decamerion Richardson announced Monday his intent to transfer to the Rebels.

Richardson is the No. 3-ranked cornerback in the transfer portal per the On3 player ratings.

Richardson, who many considered a potential NFL Draft prospect this spring, is perhaps one of the biggest departures from State’s team via the portal this cycle.

The Cullen, Louisiana native played in 45 games throughout his four-year career for the Bulldogs, recording 26 starts — and starting every game the last two seasons.

In 2022, Richardson finished ninth in the SEC with 50 solo tackles and 85 total as well as his three passes defended. In 2023, Richardson defended seven passes and notched 79 total tackles, good for 10th in the SEC this season.

In his time in Starkville, Richardson notched 177 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, one sack, 10 pass deflections and a fumble recovery.

In high school, Richardson played for Bossier High where he was ranked the No. 74 cornerback in the class.

He will have one season of eligibility remaining.

Mississippi State named former Ole Miss offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, who spent the past two seasons as Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator, as the Bulldogs’ head coach after firing Zach Arnett not long after the loss to the Rebels in the Egg Bowl.
