Boom! Ole Miss Lands 2027 Defensive Back Mason Moore from Baton Rouge

OXFORD, Miss. — Class of 2027 defensive back Mason Moore has ball skills that just can’t be taught. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound safety, who attends Baton Rouge Central High, committed to Ole Miss Friday night. He has visited the Rebels twice for two separate games and has now made it official with his pledge.

Ole Miss running backs coach Frank Wilson and Rebels’ recruiting coordinator Jeremy Singleton were the primary point of contact during Moore’s recruitment.

Moore is coming off a 39-tackle, one sack, and one interception season, but he does so much more than what his stats indicate. When you turn on his film, you quickly see he is a part of almost every play, making an impact one way or another. He is still an unranked recruit, but that likely won’t last long.

In a conversation The Rebel Walk had with Moore earlier this spring, the talented defensive back said Ole Miss was one of his top schools. “Texas, USC, and Ole Miss,” in no particular order, were all dream schools for him — and the Rebels were were who had offered him.

When talking to Moore, I wanted to know who he models his game after, and the two answers I got make perfect sense.

“I used to watch his film before every game,” he said of Houston Texans’ safety Jalen Pitre. He went on to add, “Amik Robertson and I are close to the same size snd he’s in the NFL, so I feel like he really opened my eyes,” Moore says of the Washington Commanders’ cornerback.

Moore plays exactly like Robertson and Pitre combined. The grit and determination stand out on film, as Moore shows no fear when making a play. For someone who might be considered a bit undersized, he is more than willing to go up against any player in his way — and he’s more than likely to win, too.

Driven by a goal to make it to college football and eventually the NFL, Moore has the skills to pull it off.

Head coach Pete Golding and the rest of the defensive staff have landed a player who is able to be molded and may well turn out to be a gem of a commit, if the Rebels can hold him until signing day. Moore brings the toughness that a Golding-led team seems to aim for, making him a perfect fit for the roster.
