BOOM! Four-star 2024 QB Trever Jackson chooses Ole Miss over A&M, Oklahoma and UCLA

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss garnered yet another huge commit for the 2024 recruiting cycle as four-star quarterback Trever Jackson out of Jones High School (Winter Garden, Florida) announced his intention Saturday to become a Rebel.

It’s just that relationship I’ve got with Lane Kiffin. He’s known me since I was a kid. He’s just got that energy you want to play for and he has one of the most explosive offenses in college football.

Trever Jackson on choosing Ole Miss

Ole Miss has officially gone two-for-two this weekend as yesterday head coach Lane Kiffin and company reeled in another big fish Friday in elite Ocean Springs, Mississippi athlete Noreel White.

And they now have the signal caller in the class to complement him. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Jackson held over 27 offers, but he ultimately chose Ole Miss over Oklahoma, UCLA, and Texas A&M from his final four.

Family connection

Jackson already had a relationship with Coach Kiffin as he alluded to in his commitment statement. Coach Kiffin recruited Trevers older brother Tre Jackson to Florida Atlantic, so that connection was strong.

“We already had that relationship,” Jackson told Chad Simmons of On3.

Kiffin knew me, he knew my family, so it was easy when they started recruiting me at Ole Miss. My brother is in his final year at FAU, and when he first got there, I was in the locker room sometimes, I was at every home game and I knew I liked Coach Kiffin. I even met his dad, Monte Kiffin, and I tried on one of his super bowl rings. I knew Coach Kiffin would be a great coach to play for.

Jackson stands as the No.15 QB in the country and the No.32 overall player in the Sunshine State.

For Jackson, attending ‘Juice Fest, 2023’ made an impact, as the Rebels caught the attention of one of the nation’s top uncommitted quarterbacks at just the right time.

This will be Jackson’s first season playing with Jones High School as he transferred in from Winter Garden West Orange. During his junior campaign at Winter Garden West, he had a 59.3% completion rate en route to throwing for 1,559 yards and 16 touchdowns.

He also rushed 52 times for 306 yards and 6 TDs and he finished with a 7-2 record as the starter for Winter Garden West Orange, as he helped his team to a district title in the Florida 4M class.

Here’s Jackson in last night’s game taking it in for a three-yard TD run for Jones.

Excelling at Elite 11: Jackson wins the ‘Rail Shot Challenge’

Jackson, an extremely versatile and mobile QB who is strong with both his arms and his legs, will add depth at Ole Miss to one of the strongest quarterback rooms in the country.

Notably, he was among the finalists in this year’s Elite 11 club AND he was the ‘Rail Shot Challenge winner — a test of a quarterback’s accuracy — taking home that crown after beating out 5-star Georgia commit Dylan Raiola, 5-star Michigan commit Jadyn Davis, Mater Dei 4-star signal-caller Elijah Brown, and even USC’s Heisman winner Caleb Williams who participated.

Jackson sure makes “Dropping Dimes” look effortless! Welcome to the Sip, Trever! Hotty Toddy!

Herring-Olvedo sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
