Four-star wide receiver Debron Gatling puts the Rebels in his top eight

Four-star wide receiver Debron Gatling puts the Rebels in his top eight

Edgar Cayce writes: “Mind is indeed the Builder . . . what is held in the act of mental vision becomes a reality in the material experience. We are gradually builded to that image created within our own mental being.”

I have to say I get spoiled daily here in Texas witnessing the overwhelming talent across the state. But there’s no denying that when you head east to Georgia, there are a TON of elite playmakers who are looking to manifest and build to achieve their lifelong dreams of running onto the field in a power five stadium in the not so distant future.

This week, the Milton Eagles (6-3, 4-0) of Alpharetta, Georgia, head into battle not only to end the 9-0 streak of Lambert but also to play for the Region title. The “MPIRE,” as it is known to many in the high school football world, is a program that is no stranger to developing some of the nation’s top talent year in and year out.

One such talent who will no doubt help lead the way for the Eagles is Class of 2024 wide receiver Debron Gatling.

The  6-foot, 172-pound junior is a four-star recruit who holds over 42 offers to date. However, Monday, he once again narrowed down his list from 14 to 8.

The Rebs remain in play but are going head to head with: Penn State, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M, LSU, Miami, and Oklahoma.

Gatling, who sits as the No. 39 wide receiver and No. 38 prospect out the Peach State for the 2024 class, is no stranger to accolades. He was named second-team All American by Max Preps as a sophomore, where in 13 games he caught 37 passes for 705 yards and 11 TDs. He also picked up a pass on the defensive side of the ball.

Thus far in 2022, Gatling is having a great junior season. He has amassed 49 receptions for 582 yards and has scored five touchdowns through nine games.

The Fit

Gatling is a speedster who is also a track star, posting an 11.48 in the 100-meter dash in April of 2022. Here is just  a sample of what he can do on the gridiron.

If anyone knows first-hand the evolution of Gatling’s talent, it is his high school head coach, Ben Reaves. We caught up with Coach Reaves and he shared just what really sets the young player apart:

Debron is the most dynamic and versatile guy on the field. He can play inside, outside, anywhere, which makes it hard to take him away. Once he has the ball in his hands you better wrap him up because he has the speed and the movement to take it to the house.”

Coach Ben Reaves on Debron Gatling

You can watch Gatling and the Milton Eagles under the lights this Friday, November 4, 2022, in a Regional Championship matchup at Lambert. Kick-off is set for 7:30 pm.

You can bet the addition of a playmaker like Gatling would indeed bring more explosiveness to the Rebels’ signature offense, so look for Ole Miss to continue to have Georgia on its mind on the recruiting trail.

Herring-Olvedo sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
