LIVE BLOG: No. 4 Ole Miss vs. No. 3 Texas Tech

ARLINGTON — Fresh off a 7-3 win over No. 10 TCU, the No. 4 Ole Miss baseball team faces the nation’s No. 3 Texas Tech Red Raiders Sunday in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown. We will have a batter-by-batter update here in our live blog throughout the game. Scroll down for updates and refresh as needed.

Texas Tech lost to Arkansas, 13-9, in game one of the tournament Saturday.

Inning 9

Top of 9th

Due up for Tech: 7-8-9. Rombach-Fulford-Wilson. Back to the mound for Ole Miss in the ninth inning is Max Cioffi. 

Rombach – The Tech catcher/first baseman strikes out as Cioffi gets him to go down swinging!

Fulford – He draws a one-out walk in the 9th. Rebels lead Tech, 5-3.

Wilson – Tech left fielder up to bat with one on, one out and Cioffi strikes him out!!! Two down!

Baker – Red Raider leadoff hitter up to bat with a runner on first and two outs. Baker draws a walk. Tech has runners at first and second with two outs. Rebels lead 5-3.

Coach Bianco headed out to talk to Cioffi. Pitching change for the Rebels as Luke Baker to the mound for Cioffi. 

Conley – Two-hole hitter Conley up to bat for Tech. He singles to center and scores Fulford. Rebels lead 5-4 in top of ninth.

Pitching change for Ole Miss. Braden Forsyth takes the mound for Luke Baker. He inherits runners on first and second with two outs. 

Neuse – The three-hole hitter for Tech is up to bat. Count is 1-1. Now, the count is 1-2. Now, it’s 2-2. Full count now. Double steal. Runners at second and third. Neuse draws the walk to load the bases.

Murrell – Cleanup batter Murrell up next. Tech has bases loaded with two outs. Rebs lead 5-4. Count to Murrell is 1-2. Count is now 2-2 (just missed with the fastball 93 mph). Count is 3-2. Murrell flies out to right field and Rebels win!!!!

Inning 8

Top of 8th

Due up for Tech: 2-3-4. Conley-Neuse-Murrell. Max Cioffi to the mound for Austin Miller. 

Conley – The two-hole hitter for Tech doubles down the left field line.

Neuse – Cioffi gets Neuse to go down swinging with a 93 mph fastball!

Murrell – (Conley steals third.) Tech’s cleanup batter draws a walk. Runners on the corners for Tech. Tying run is on first and Red Raiders have one out.

Stillwell – Tech’s first baseman is up to bat. Murrell is caught stealing second on the throw from Dunhurst to Chatagnier! Incredible tag by Chatagnier! There will be an official review on the Tech challenge. The call stands and Murrell is out at second! 

Stillwell then draws the walk. Masters in to pinch run for Stillwell. Tech with runners on the corners and two outs.

Jung – He flies out to left field to end the Tech threat in the top of the 8th. Rebels lead 5-3.

Bottom of 8th

Due up for Ole Miss: 6-7-8. Van Cleve-Sammons-Bench. New pitcher for Texas Tech as Conner Queen takes the mound for Riechmann. 

Ben Van Cleve – Ole Miss six-hole hitter Van Cleve goes down swinging to start the bottom of the 8th. Rebels lead 5-3.

Cade Sammons – Sammons pops up to short. Two down, nobody on for the Rebels.

Justin Bench – Ole Miss’ 8-hole hitter Bench pops up to first to end the eighth. Rebels lead 5-3.

Inning 7

Top of 7th

Due up for Texas Tech: 7-8-9. Rombach-Marusak-Wilson. Austin Miller back to the mound for the Rebels. Rebels begin the 7th with a 5-3 lead over Tech. 

Changes in the field: Cade Sammons to right field for Leatherwood. 

Rombach – Rombach goes down looking for the first out of the seventh.

Fulford on to pinch hit for Marusak – Fulford promptly grounds out to Jacob Gonzalez at short. Two down, nobody on.

Wilson – 9-hole hitter for Tech with a stand-up double to left field. Two outs for Tech with one RISP. Top of the order coming up for Red Raiders.

Baker – Austin Miller gets Baker to fly out to right to end the Tech threat in the seventh.

Bottom of 7th

Due up for Ole Miss: 2-3-4. Graham-Gonzalez-Elko. New pitcher for Tech will be left-hander Eli Riechmann. 

Kevin Graham – Rebels’ two-hole hitter up first. Ole Miss leads 5-3. Graham draws a leadoff, four-pitch walk.

Jacob Gonzalez – The Rebs’ shortstop strikes out swinging. One on, one out for Ole Miss.

Tim Elko – Ole Miss cleanup hitter Tim Elko goes down swinging. Two outs, one runner on for the Rebels.

Hayden Dunhurst – grounds out to end the seventh.

End of 7th Inning: Ole Miss 5, Texas Tech 3

Inning 6

Top of 6th

Due up for Texas Tech: 3-4-5. Neuse-Murrell-Stillwell. Gunnar Hoglund back to the mound for Ole Miss. His pitch count sits at 85 as we start the sixth inning. 

Neuse – The Red Raiders three-hole hitter triples to right to start the inning. It’s being reviewed to see if it’s a home run. If it hit the pole, it’s a homer. Official replay shows it’s actually a home run for leadoff batter Neuse. Rebels lead 5-3.

Murrell – Gunnar gets cleanup batter Murrell to go down swinging. That’s Gunnar’s 11th strikeout today. 

Pitching change for Ole Miss as Austin Miller takes the mound for Gunnar Hoglund.

Stillwell – Austin Miller gets Stillwell to fly out to Justin Bench in center.  Great jump on the ball by Bench. Two outs and nobody on for the Red Raiders.

Jung – Six-hole hitter up next for Tech, and he’s hit by pitch. Tech has runner on with two outs. Rebels lead 5-3. *Play is being reviewed per a challenge from Coach Bianco. 

Wow! Bianco’s challenge comes through again! Officials rule that Jung moved into the ball and that’s a strike…for strike three. That ends the inning. 

Bottom of 6th 

Due up for Ole Miss: 8-9-1. Bench-LaFleur-Chatagnier. Girton back to the mound. 

Justin Bench – Justin strikes out swinging to start the bottom of the sixth inning.

Trey LaFleur – The Ole Miss first baseman goes down swinging. Two down for the Rebs in the B6, leading 5-3.

Peyton Chatagnier – draws a two-out walk. Rebels with one on, two out. That’s the first walk given up by Tech’s Girton.

Kevin Graham – Chatagnier out at second, caught stealing. (Catcher to short)

Inning 5

Top of 5th

Due up for Texas Tech: 9-1-2. Wilson-Baker-Conely. Hoglund back to the mound for Ole Miss. He begins the top of the 5th with a pitch count of 74. 

Wilson – Gunnar gets his TENTH strikeout of the game as Wilson goes down looking.

Baker – He flies out to right field. Nobody on and two outs here in the top of the fifth. Rebels lead 5-2.

Conley – Three-hole hitter Conley grounds out to short. Side is retired. Three up, three down for Hoglund and the Rebels!

Bottom of 5th

Due up for Ole Miss: 5-6-7. Dunhurst-Van Cleve-Leatherwood. Girton back to mound for Tech. His pitch count is at 24 to start the bottom of the 5th. 

Hayden Dunhurst – The Ole Miss catcher lines out to left field.

Ben Van Cleve – Ben lines out to first and the Rebels have two outs with nobody on here in the 5th. Ole Miss leads Tech, 5-2.

Hayden Leatherwood – Hayden grounds out to short and that ends the fifth.

Due up for Tech: 5-6-7. Stillwell-Jung-Rombach. Gunnar to the mound for Ole Miss. He’s thrown 61 pitches as the Rebels prepare to start the fourth. 

Stillwell – Five-hole hitter for the Red Raiders goes down swinging. That’s the SEVENTH strikeout for Gunnar today. 

Jung – Another strikeout for Gunnar! That’s EIGHT strikeouts. Two down for Tech. Nobody on.

Rombach singles to left field. One on, two outs.

Marusak – Gunnar gets his NINTH strikeout as Marusak goes down swinging!

Due up for Ole Miss: 9-1-2. LaFleur, Chatagnier, Graham. Girton back to the mound for Red Raiders. 

Trey LaFleur – The Rebels’ first baseman goes down swinging.

Peyton Chatagnier – The second baseman goes down swinging. Two outs, nobody on for the Rebels. Ole Miss leads 5-2.

Kevin Graham – The Ole Miss two-hole hitter reaches on a throwing error by the Tech shortstop. Rebels with one man on and two outs.

Jacob Gonzalez – The Rebels’ freshman shortstop singles to right field! Rebels with runners on the corners and two outs.

Tim Elko – Ole Miss cleanup hitter grounds out to second to end the inning.

Hoglund back to mound for the Rebels. He’s at 35 pitch count to begin the inning. Due up for Tech: 9-1-2. Wilson-Baker-Conley

Wilson – Wilson gets a leadoff walk for Tech.

Baker – The right fielder pops up to Chatagnier at second. One down, runner on first for the Red Raiders.

Conley – (Wilson gets to second on a throwing error by Ole Miss pitcher on failed pickoff attempt.) Gunnar gets two-hole hitter Conley to go down swinging! That’s Gunnar’s fifth strikeout of the game. One runner at second and two outs for the Red Raiders. They lead Ole Miss, 2-0.

Neuse – Three-hole hitter Neuse draws a walk and Tech has runners at first and second with two outs.

Murrell – Cleanup batter Murrell up next. Bianco out to the mound to talk to Gunnar about how to approach Easton Murrell. Two men out and runners on first and second. Gunnar gets his sixth strikeout as Murrell goes down swinging!! 

Bottom of the 3rd

Due up for Ole Miss: 9-1-2. LaFleur, Chatagnier, Graham. Tech leads the Rebels, 2-0. Back to the mound for Tech will be Micah Dallas. He’s thrown 30 pitches as we prepare to start the bottom of the third. 

Trey LaFleur – Trey lines out to left field for the Rebels’ first out of the inning.

Peyton Chatagnier – The Rebels’ leadoff man is hit by a pitch and Ole Miss has a runner on and one out.

Kevin Graham – Graham out at first (2b to p). Speedy Chatagnier advances to third on the hit and run on a ball that didn’t leave the infield. Rebels have RISP with two outs.

Jacob Gonzalez – Three-hole hitter Gonzalez HITS A TWO-RUN HOME RUN THAT ALSO SCORES CHATAGNIER!!!!! GAME IS TIED!

Tim Elko – Gets to second on an error by the center fielder. (We would have given him the double, but oh well.) Regardless of the E-8 official call, Elko is on second. Rebels have two outs and Dunhurst up to bat.

Hayden Dunhurst – singles to right field and Elko scores! Rebels take a 3-2 lead! 

Ben Van Cleve – (Hayden Dunhurst steals second. Then, Dunhurst makes it to third on a wild pitch.) Van Cleve makes it to third on a throwing error. E-5. Hayden Dunhurst scores and Ole Miss takes a 4-2 lead!

Hayden Leatherwood – Hayden singles to right field and gets the RBI as Van Cleve scores! Rebels take a 5-2 lead over Tech. 

Pitching change for No. 3 Texas Tech. Right-hander Brendan Girton to the mound for Micah Dallas.

Justin Bench – Justin flies out to right field to end the third inning, but not before Ole Miss scores five runs and takes a 5-2 lead over Tech.

Top of 2nd

Hoglund back to the mound after a three-up, three-down first inning. Due up for the Red Raiders: 4-5-6. Murrell-Stillwell-Jung

Murrell – Another strikeout for Gunnar as Murrell goes down swinging!

Stillwell – Stillwell grounds out to the Ole Miss freshman shortstop, Jacob Gonzalez.

Jung – Jung draws a two-out walk. One on for the Red Raiders.

Rombach – The Red Raider catcher up to bat now. He hits a home run off of Hogland. He led the Red Raiders in homers last season. Tech leads 2-0.

Marusak – Gunnar gets him to go down swinging to end the top half of the inning. Tech scores two runs and leads Ole Miss 2-0.

Bottom of 2nd

Due up for Ole Miss: 4-5-6. Elko-Dunhurst-Van Cleve. Micah Dallas back to the mound for Tech. 

Tim Elko – Tim goes down swinging and the Rebels have one out here in the 2nd.

Hayden Dunhurst – Draws a four-pitch walk. Rebels with a runner on first and one out.

Ben Van Cleve – Van Cleve lines out to third. Rebels have runner on and two outs.

Hayden Leatherwood – (Dunhurst advances to second on a wild pitch.) Leatherwood draws the walk. Rebels have runners at first and third with two outs as Dunhurst gets to third on the wild pitch.

Justin Bench – Justin reaches on a fielder’s choice. Leatherwood out at second. That’s the end of the second inning and we head to the top of the third with Texas Tech leading Ole Miss 2-0.
