RW Roundtable: Our Week 4 SEC Picks

RW Roundtable: Our Week 4 SEC Picks

The Rebels are 2-1, Georgia is hosting College Gameday, and five SEC teams are in the AP Top 10. SEC football is here with a great lineup of games in Week 4!

Our records through Week 3…

Jake 29-7
Evie 29-7
Land 28-8
Hays 27-9

11 A.M – #23 California (3-0) vs Ole Miss (2-1)

Spread: OM -2.5

O/U: 44

Jake: I think Matt Luke and his players understand how big this game is. They can make a statement here, or possibly lose the support of all the Ole Miss “fans” that are on the fence. Beat a ranked team at home, and those fence jumpers suddenly come running back. Luke gets the Rebels into another gear, Corral takes another step, Scottie and Ealy pound the ball, and the defense plays like they did against Memphis and Arkansas. Rebs by a TD…late.

Evie: I agree with the rest of the Roundtable, here. This game is huge…and could be a real turning point in the season. Ole Miss WR coach Jacob Peeler was an assistant at Cal from 2013-2016 and is familiar with the Cal secondary, which should be an advantage for Corral and company. Look for Scottie and Jerrion to rumble in this game. Cal could start 4-0 for the first time since 2015 if the Bears win–but I don’t think that happens and the Rebels get this victory over a Top 25 team.

Land: I think this game is one of the biggest of the year, and Ole Miss will get a chance to “tell its story.” If the Ole Miss defense does as it’s supposed to and absolutely bullies Cal’s abysmal offense, and if the Ole Miss offense wakes up from its three-game stupor, the Rebs win–but until this offense shows me it can move the ball effectively…I’m a hater. Cal wins in a defensive SLUGFEST.

Hays: Cal’s defense back seven is awesome and will be one of the best that the Rebels see. The starting back seven is as good as LSU or Alabama, but their defensive line is porous. Whoever scores 21 points will win the game, and I think Rebels just fall short.

Ross: This is a huge game for the Rebels’ chances of getting to six wins. Cal’s defense is legit, and our offense has not looked to hot in the first three games of the season. I believe Scottie and Ealy carry the Rebs in this one though, and the landshark defense shows up ready to play. Rebs pick up a top 25 win in the Vaught.

11 A.M. – Southern Miss (2-1) vs #2 Alabama (3-0)

Spread: Bama -38.5

O/U: 61

Jake: What do you want me to say…I mean really.

Evie: Poor Southern Miss.

Land: Coach Hopson is a dear family friend…let’s just say our family is praying for him…

Hays: Southern Miss has the capability of scoring some points, however, Alabama will score plenty more.

Ross: ROLL TIDE PAWL

11 A.M. – #4 LSU (3-0) vs Vanderbilt (0-3)

Spread: LSU -23

O/U: 62.5

Jake: Vandy is one of two Power-5 teams without a win. I think that stat will continue into next week for sure. LSU is firing on all cylinders with a better offense than we’ve seen the Tigers have in a long time. Geaux Tigers (Coach O voice).

Evie: Is this real life? LSU QB Joe Burrow is first in the nation in completion percentage and second in the country in passing yards. I don’t even know when the last time the Tigers had a QB ranked so high in any passing category. LSU wins this one easily.

Land: Easy SEC wins are about as frequent as Eli having time in the pocket…so…not that frequent…but LSU has been blessed with one.

Hays: Whenever you have to go get your starting quarterback from Ball State you know you have issues. Vandy’s defense is pretty good, but the offense is awful. LSU will kill them.

Ross: Don’t you feel sorry for Vandy??? Nah, it’s what they get for “AJ’s no catch” last year. LSU rolls.

11 A.M. – Tennessee (1-2) vs #9 Florida (3-0)

Spread: UF -14

O/U: 48.5

Jake: Two weeks ago, Florida rolls over UT. Without Feleipe Franks, though, and on the back of that awful collapse at Kentucky, I think this game might be closer than we expect. Gators still win, but not by 2 TDs.

Evie: Tennessee has lost 13 of the last 14 games against the Gators and that trend won’t change this weekend. I do think it will be closer than most think as Florida lost QB Feleipe Franks last week for the season and will also be without defensive end Jabari Zuniga and DB CJ Jenderson. That being said, this will be the Vols’ first road game of the season–and the youth on the Tennessee defense and the O-line will find The Swamp quite hostile. Gators win.

Land: Pruitt is coaching for his life…seat stays hot this week.

Hays: I just do not see the Gators losing this game. Tennessee is in bad shape and needs a victory, but the Vols will not get one.

Ross: After barely escaping Lexington with a win last week, Florida can breath with a not-so-good Tennessee team coming into town. Gators win this one easily.

2:30 P.M. – #8 Auburn (3-0) vs #17 Texas A&M (2-1)

Spread: A&M -4

O/U: 47.5

Jake: I’ll say it again, I think Auburn is a fraud. I think A&M exposes them this week on primetime in College Station. Go Aggies.

Evie: Outside of Ole Miss vs. Cal, this is the game I’m most eager to see this weekend because I think it tells us whether Auburn is just a paper Tiger or if Jimbo is really the guru Aggies think he is. Jimbo is 3-0 at Kyle Field vs. SEC teams, but Auburn hasn’t lost at A&M in its three previous three trips. This one is sooo close. I give the edge to the Aggies because of the 12th Man crowd.

Land: It would make sense for A&M to win this game right? WRONG. Auburn is so good at winning games they have no business winning…give me the Tigers. GUS BUS KEEPS ON ROLLING.

Hays: The Aggies will win because I see Bo Nix having issues on the road at Kyle Field. It might get so bad that Gatewood makes an appearance at quarterback.

Ross: I’m with Jake here, I don’t think Auburn is that good of a football team. The Aggies win this one.

3 P.M. – Kentucky (2-1) vs Mississippi State (2-1)

Spread: MSU -6

O/U: 48.5

Jake: Kentucky looked like a totally different team after Feleipe Franks went down last week. I think they give State a great game for 3 quarters, but I see the Bulldogs pulling away late.

Evie: Both of these teams blew a fourth quarter lead last week (Kentucky, a 21-10 lead over the Gators in the 4th, and State a 24-17 lead over Kansas State in the final quarter). State is favored by a TD, but I think Kentucky pulls it out behind one of the best offensive lines in the SEC.

Land: The second-best SEC game this week IMO…should be a great game and I get to do my favorite thing: pick against State!!!

Hays: Mississippi State could easily lose this game, but I do not think they will because this is a home game for the Dawgs.

Ross: I’m not sold on Tommy Stevens or his backup; “the Geico Caveman” at quarterback for the Bulldogs. I think Kentucky will bounce back after the heartbreaker last week and get the win.

3 P.M. – South Carolina (1-2) vs Missouri (2-1)

Spread: MIZZOU -9.5

O/U: 64

Jake: South Carolina held their own against Alabama for a little while last week, which makes me think they can give Mizzou a run for their money. However, I think Mizzou still wins a close one.

Evie: South Carolina’s QB Ryan Hilinski is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week and he earned those honors against Alabama–but I think the spread on this one is high for a reason. Missouri rolls.

Land: This game is intriguing, and I think it will be closer than they think…Tigers win in shocking fashion behind a Kelly Bryant TUDDY.

Hays: Missouri wins handily.

Ross: Missouri wins this one, and Will Muschamp’s seat is getting a bit toasty.

6:30 P.M. – San Jose State (1-1) vs Arkansas (2-1)

Spread: ARK -20.5

O/U: 61

Jake: Everyone deserves a cupcake once in a while…Arkansas moves to 3-1.

Evie: Razorbacks will be 3-1 after this one.

Land:  Good for Chad Morris…

Hays: Arkansas gets a win and surpasses last year’s win total.

Ross: Arkansas picks up its 3rd win. HALFWAY TO BOWL ELIGIBILITY!

7 P.M. – #7 Notre Dame (3-0) vs #3 Georgia (3-0)

Spread: UGA -13.5

O/U: 56

Jake: LOVE this game. I think Notre Dame is ranked a bit higher than they should be, but I still think this will be an exciting game. Dawgs pull away and win by a few scores late.

Evie: Should a No. 3 team be favored by almost two TDs over a legit No. 7? I think not. UGA pounds the Irish into submission and covers the spread.

Land:  Don’t let the rankings fool you…Georgia rolls…IT JUST MEANS MORE.

Hays: Georgia has shown they can run the football at will, and Notre Dame’s run defense has been bad so far. There is no way Georgia does not roll.

Ross: All eyes will be on this game Saturday night, and the SEC will assert its dominance against the *Independents*??? Georgia wins.
