Most Impactful Rebels for 2019: No. 15 Jerrion Ealy

OXFORD, Miss. — As we count down the days until the Ole Miss season opener against Memphis in the Liberty Bowl, we are releasing who we think the Top 50 Most Impactful Players will be for the Rebels this season. This series is a way for Ole Miss fans to learn more about players to keep an eye on this fall.

With 15 days before kickoff, coming in at No. 15…

Jerrion Ealy

Running back Jerrion Ealy, a five-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite, signed with Ole Miss in the Class of 2019. As a senior at Jackson (Miss.) Prep, he rushed 167 times for 1,526 yards at a rate of 8.9 yards per carry while scoring 24 touchdowns. He earned MVP honors at the 2019 Under Armor All-American Game after rushing for a game-record 116 yards and two touchdowns.

Running backs coach Derrick Nix talked with The Rebel Walk about the 5-foot-10, 200-pound Ealy earlier this month at Media Day. “I’ve been impressed with him so far,” said Nix. “The thing that I can gauge that I’ve seen so far is the way that he conditions himself during the summer. He was up front leading the pack a lot. In his group, he was the first one in line in drills. You can see his speed and quickness in drills. He’s eager to play.”

Since Ealy arrived on campus in Oxford earlier this summer, he’s been trying to learn as much as he can from starting running back Scottie Phillips, picking the upperclassman’s brain and trying to get as much knowledge and insight as he can before stepping on the field against SEC competition.

That being said, Ealy says the pressure of competing against SEC competition doesn’t make him nervous. “I don’t let pressure get to me,” he said.

I don’t let pressure define me. I just go out there and play. What my results are on the field are what God wants them to be. Whatever He wants me to do, that’s all I can do.

Ole Miss RB Jerrion Ealy

Heading into fall camp, Ealy, like all the other incoming freshmen who arrived in the summer, wasn’t listed on the two-deep at running back. However, we fully expect him to play a big role this season at running back as well as see time in the slot.

Ealy making the Top 15 on our countdown list wasn’t much of a stretch as he has outshined the competition everywhere he’s been. It’s going to be hard to keep the talented, two-star (baseball) athlete off the field this fall, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the true freshman running back earn SEC All-Freshman team honors after this season.

Watch out for No. 9!
