Recruiting Heat Check: Louisiana playmaker Jaden Keelan emerging as major Ole Miss priority

OXFORD, Miss. — Louisiana defensive backs carry a different kind of edge. They play fast, physical, and fearless—and that mentality jumps off the tape when watching 2028 safety Jaden Keelan out of John Curtis Christian School.

The No. 32 safety nationally and No. 8 overall player in Louisiana is beginning to see his recruitment take another major step forward heading into the summer evaluation period.

But through all the growing attention, Keelan remains grounded in the process.

“Yes ma’am, I’m just blessed to be in this position,” Keelan tells The Rebel Walk.

With so many opportunities, I dreamed and prayed to be in this position. Now that I am, I’m just taking it all in and enjoying every second.

Right now, Keelan says programs across the country have stayed consistent in communication, but he knows things are about to shift once June 15 arrives.

“No standouts right now. Everybody has been steady with contact with me, but I’m sure as soon as June 15 hits, a lot will change,” he explained.

One program that has already made a strong impression is Ole Miss Rebels football.

“…Ole Miss told me from Day one I am a top priority for them. I always keep that in mind. It’s a great school and a great environment. Oxford is definitely different, and my contact with them is very strong.

Keelan also has a busy summer ahead with visits and camps lined up with Tennessee, Arkansas, Kansas State, Houston, Florida State, and Texas Tech.

And when it comes to finding the right fit, the answer is simple.

“Just somewhere I feel like I’m home.”

On tape, Keelan looks every bit like a modern SEC safety prospect.

The sophomore standout finished the season with 58 solo tackles, six pass breakups, one sack, and one forced fumble — and the film shows a defender constantly around the football. He plays with urgency downhill and flashes natural instincts, diagnosing plays before they fully develop.

What immediately stands out is how comfortable he looks operating in space. Keelan takes smart pursuit angles, closes quickly to ball carriers, and plays with a physical edge when finishing tackles. He does not hesitate when filling alleys in run support and consistently arrives with force at the point of contact.

His versatility also jumps off the screen.

At John Curtis, Keelan moves around the secondary instead of being locked into one role. He shows the ability to rotate deep, work underneath in coverage, and slide closer to the box depending on the situation. That positional flexibility has become a premium trait in today’s college football world, where defenses are constantly searching for safeties who can erase space and disguise coverages.

For Ole Miss, the early positioning here matters.

The Rebels have made it clear Keelan is a priority, and Louisiana remains one of the most important recruiting territories in the SEC. With June communication periods approaching and summer visits ramping up, expect this recruitment to become even more competitive in the coming months.

And based on the tape, it is easy to understand why programs are pushing hard to establish early momentum with one of Louisiana’s most instinctive young defenders.

Lee Ann Herring-Olvedo

Lee Ann serves as the Director of Recruiting for The Rebel Walk. She sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
