The NCAA announced Monday that the Rebels will face North Carolina at 6 p.m. CT on Friday in the opening round of the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field. The game will be part of the tournament’s first day and will air nationally on ESPN.
Should the Rebels win that game they will next play on Sunday, June 14 at 6 p.m. on ESPN against the winner of West Virginia and Troy.
If they lose to North Carolina on Friday, they will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday against the loser of the West Virginia and Troy matchup.
The Ole Miss vs. North Carolina matchup pairs two of college baseball’s most successful postseason teams this spring. Ole Miss enters Omaha after sweeping both its regional and super regional rounds, including a two-game sweep of Auburn to secure the program’s first College World Series appearance since 2022.
North Carolina arrives in Omaha with a 50-12 record and the momentum of a dramatic Super Regional victory over USC. The Tar Heels dropped Game 1 before winning the final two contests, including a walk-off victory in the deciding game to punch their ticket to Omaha.
While Friday’s contest will mark the first meeting between Ole Miss and North Carolina in more than five decades, the Rebels have enjoyed success in the all-time series. Ole Miss is 4-0 against the Tar Heels, with all four meetings coming in NCAA Tournament play during the 1964 and 1969 seasons.
The Rebels are making their seventh College World Series appearance and return to Omaha looking to add another chapter to a program history that includes the 2022 national championship. North Carolina, meanwhile, is making its 13th appearance on college baseball’s biggest stage and is still searching for the first national title in program history.
And after a four-year wait, Ole Miss is officially heading back to Omaha.
