Four-star Alabama WR Corey Barber Picks Ole Miss Over Top SEC Rivals: ‘Receivers do well at Ole Miss and it’s a very explosive offense’

OXFORD, Miss. — The momentum is indeed building on the recruiting trail as Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have added another key piece to the Rebels’ 2026 recruiting class in 4-star wide receiver Corey Barber out of Spain Park High School in Alabama.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pound, first-team All-State player currently ranks as the No. 46 wide receiver and the No. 13 overall player to come out of Alabama. Like many of the nation’s top players, Barber had his choice of fellow top SEC programs such as Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.

After his commitment today, the Birmingham native told us why he is going to be a Rebel.

I chose Ole Miss based on how well I think I would fit their offensive scheme and their genuine interest in me as a player. Since the first day they offered me, (wide receivers) Coach (George) McDonald and staff have continued to show me I’m a priority. Receivers do well at Ole Miss and it’s a very explosive offense, I believe they finished as one of the top offenses in the country. On top of that, Coach Kiffin is great and Coach (Charlie) Weis (offensive coordinator) is as well. All in all, they made me feel at home, both coaches and players as well. #Hotty Toddy

Corey Barber on why he committed to Ole Miss

Following his visit back in April, Barber shared with us some of the things he would be looking for ahead of his decision.

“First, a great coaching staff for my development. Second, I would say an offense I’m a great fit for. Third, a great community and culture,” he explained.

Ole Miss checked all those boxes for Barber.

Throughout the recruitment of Barber, the Rebels never let up and always remained steadfast in letting the talented receiver know that he would have all he is looking for in Oxford. Ole Miss built a strong relationship with him, making sure he knew how important he is to the team’s future plans.

“The genuine love and support. I talk with Coach G Mac daily and anytime I’m in town, I’m treated as a priority; that never changes,” Barber noted on what stood out to him about Ole Miss.

The fit in the ‘Sip

If you’re looking for a receiver who can effortlessly eat up space as he goes into the deep-third territories, Barber is that guy! He also possesses remarkable short-area quickness, and he transforms into a potent threat for yards-after-catch opportunities. Having had the opportunity to see it firsthand, I can say he is one of the toughest to guard and presents a big mismatch for defenders with his explosiveness. He notched a jaw-dropping junior season, where he racked up over 70 catches for nearly 1,500 yards and an astounding 20 touchdowns!

But there’s more to this athlete than just numbers. Competing in track has really helped set him apart, and he has clocked strong times in the 100-meter dash, proving his speed is for real. Whether operating from the slot or stretching the field outside, he brings versatility to any offensive scheme. His route-running potential is sky-high thanks to his natural explosiveness and functional athleticism.

Keep your eyes peeled for this promising athlete as he continues to sharpen his skills and redefine what it means to be a playmaker on the field!  Welcome home, Corey!

Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
