Let the Madness Begin! A record 14 SEC Men’s Basketball Teams make NCAA Tournament

OXFORD, Miss. — The Southeastern Conference has broken the record for the most number of league teams to receive bids to the NCAA Tournament. Fourteen SEC teams will participate in March Madness, and this breaks the record of 11 teams that was set by the Big East in 2011.
The 14 SEC teams playing in the NCAA Tournament with their seed and region are:
- Alabama – No. 2-seed, East
- Arkansas – No. 10-seed, West
- Auburn – No. 1-seed overall, South
- Florida – No. 1-seed, West
- Georgia – No. 9-seed, Midwest
- Kentucky – No. 3-seed, Midwest
- Mississippi State – No. 8-seed, East
- Missouri – No. 6-seed, West
- Oklahoma – No. 9-seed, West
- Ole Miss – No. 6-seed, South
- Tennessee – No. 2-seed, Tennessee
- Texas – No. 11-seed Midwest, First Four vs. Xavier
- Texas A&M – No. 4-seed, South
- Vanderbilt – No. 10-seed, East
The Auburn Tigers won the regular season SEC title, but Florida won the SEC tournament that wrapped up Sunday. The Gators defeated Tennessee to claim the title.
Bruce Pearl’s Tigers ended the regular season with back-to-back losses and then went 1-1 in the conference tournament, beating Ole Miss and losing to Tennessee.
Florida’s title is the first of head coach Todd Golden’s tenure with the Gators. In an interesting note, the last 3 times Florida won the SEC Tournament, the Gators also made it to the NCAA Final Four.
LSU and South Carolina are the only two SEC teams who did not make this year’s NCAA tournament.
As for the Rebels, they’ll face the winner of the play-in game between San Diego State and North Carolina.
