Boom! Ole Miss gets commitment from Western Kentucky transfer kicker Lucas Carneiro, CUSA Special Teams Player of Year
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss received a commitment Monday from Lucas Carneiro, a transfer kicker from Western Kentucky. “Lucas the Leg” Carneiro was recently named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year for his outstanding season.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
This season’s Rebel kicker, Caden Davis, has no more eligibility remaining, so finding a replacement has been a top priority.
Carneiro was 6-6 on field goals from 50+ yards.
Carneiro has been clutch all season and hit the game-winning 50-yard field goal to punch WKU’s ticket to the 2024 CUSA Championship Game. He tallied a season-high 14 points in a 44-17 win over UTEP, converting all five extra-point attempts and three field goals, including a season-long 54-yarder that tied the school’s second-longest mark.
Carneiro made 18-of-19 field goals this season and connected on all 41 of his extra-point attempts. The North Carolina native made 18 consecutive field goals, breaking the WKU record, and made all three of his field-goal tries from beyond 50-plus yards.
Carneiro was named the CUSA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year and was named the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week twice this fall. Following his stellar 2024 season, he also was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza award, honoring the nation’s top kicker.
The 5-foot-11 Carneiro was also named the CUSA Special Teams Player of the Year for 2024 after a spectacular season for the Hilltoppers. Carneiro (6-6) joins Michigan’s Dominic Zvada (7-7) as the only FBS kickers that are perfect on kicks over 50 yards with at least six attempts.
