Ole Miss’ Rita Igbokwe Invited to New York Liberty Training Camp
NEW YORK – (Release) Following her final season of collegiate action, Ole Miss women’s basketball’s Rita Igbokwe has earned an invite to compete for a roster spot in training camp with the WNBA’s New York Liberty. She joins teammate Marquesha Davis who was selected by the Liberty in the first round of the WNBA Draft.
In her second season at Ole Miss, Igbokwe was a defensive force for the Rebels and led the squad with a total of 54 blocks. Leading the charge for the season, Ole Miss rejected a school record 190 program blocks as the Rebels became one of four SEC programs to reject 150 shots or more for two straight seasons.
A key piece for Ole Miss in its third consecutive NCAA Tournament run, Igbokwe ended the season second in rebounding for the Rebels with an average of 5.8 boards her game. Rejecting an average of 1.64 shots per game, Igbokwe ranked seventh overall in the defensive minded SEC.
If Davis and Igbokwe each land a spot on the Liberty’s final roster, they would become the fifth and sixth Rebels to hit the court in the WNBA.
