Quick Hits: Ole Miss Defeats Detroit Mercy, 70-69

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss men’s basketball team defeated the Detroit Mercy Titans, 70-69, on Tuesday night inside the SJB Pavilion.

Ole Miss (3-0, 0-0 SEC) was led in scoring by Jaylen Murray with 22 points. The Rebels’ Matthew Murrell finished in double figures with 17 points.

The Rebels jumped out of the gates hot to open the game on a 10-0 run and went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to start the game.

Detroit Mercy climbed back into the game behind the play of Marcus Tankersly who had 15 points in the first half. He finished the game with 19 points.

The Titans had a total of three players score in double figures as Jayden Stone added 22 points and Edoardo Del Cadia had 16 points.

Detroit Mercy took their lead at 21-20 as both teams traded advantages over the next two trips down the court.

Ole Miss took a 34-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Titans went on a 4-0 run to retake the lead over the Rebels. Detroit Mercy’s largest advantage was three points at 47-44 before a three-pointer by TJ Caldwell that tied the game with 14:06 remaining.

Ole Miss regained the lead at 51-49 with 11:06 on a bucket by Allen Flanigan.
