Rebels Drafted
Wide receiver Jonathan Mingo was the first Ole Miss player to hear his name called as he was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 39th overall pick in the second round.
Three additional Rebels were taken Saturday in subsequent rounds: Tavius Robinson was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 4th round, Zach Evans was picked by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round, and Nick Broeker went to the Bills in the seventh round.
Notable Undrafted Free Agents in NFL History
Sure, every player dreams of hearing his name called in the NFL Draft, but even if he does not there is still a path to an NFL future.
There have been many NFL stars who began their careers as undrafted free agents. These include J.C. Jackson, James Robinson, Phillip Lindsay, and Tyler Huntley in the last five years alone.
Going back farther, these greats also began their careers as UDFA: former quarterbacks Kurt Warner, Warren Moon and Tony Romo, Lions legend Dick “Night Train” Lane, legendary Giants defensive back Emlen Tunnell, Vikings Hall of Fame pass-rusher John Randle, future Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates and former Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison, to name a few.
