Broeker Earns Spot on Outland Trophy Watch List
DALLAS – (Release) Ole Miss left tackle Nick Broeker was named to the 2021 Outland Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced Tuesday.
Broeker is one of 80 interior linemen named to the watch list for the award given to the nation’s top interior lineman.
The Springfield, Illinois, native heads into the 2021 campaign as a preseason first-team All-America selection by 247Sports. The junior lineman started all 10 games for the Rebels at left tackle last season, allowing just two sacks in 432 pass blocks.
Broeker anchored an offensive line for a Rebel offense that ranked top 20 in the FBS in nine different offensive categories last season, including having the No. 3 team in the country in total offense. The Rebels shattered the school record with 555.5 yards per game.
Ole Miss also broke the SEC record for total offense in conference games (562.4 ypg), besting LSU’s mark of 550.0 yards per game set last season during the Tigers’ run to a national title.
The Outland Trophy, celebrating 75 years since its founding, is the third-oldest major college football award. Created in 1946 when Dr. John Outland presented the FWAA with a financial contribution to initiate the award, the Outland Trophy has been given ever since. Dr. Outland, an All-American at the University of Pennsylvania in the late 1890s, eventually took up practice in Kansas City, Missouri.
The recipient of the 2021 Outland Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN in December. The official presentation to the winner will be made at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner on Jan. 12, 2022.
