Diamond Rebels are nation’s consensus No. 3 team

OXFORD, Miss. — The Rebels (25-4, 6-3) are the consensus number three baseball team in the nation this week.

All five of the of the major outlets — D1Baseball, Perfect Game, NCBWA, Baseball America, and the USA Today Coaches poll — have Ole Miss ranked third in the country.

The Rebels, who were ranked number four in all five of the above polls last week, defeated then-No. 14 Southern Miss earlier in the week and followed that up with a critical series (2-1) victory over then-No. 5 Arkansas in Oxford that precipitated the one-spot rise in each of the five polls.

The Rebels dropped the opening game of the series against the Razorbacks, but they bounced back to win the final two. Assistant coach Mike Clement attributes part of the resiliency to the maturation of the team’s younger players.

Because of the youth of a year ago and the experience that they got, they’re seeing what they are seeing right now. We have a bunch of guys that are really confident players.
