Inside The Commitment | Ole Miss gains pledge from ’27 IOL Shavezz Dixon: ‘The coaches made me feel like a priority…’

OXFORD, Miss. — Lane Kiffin and the Rebels continue to heat up recruiting efforts for the 2027 class. Wednesday evening, Lee County (GA) interior offensive lineman Shavezz Dixon announced his commitment to the Rebels.

Standing at 6-feet-4 inches and weighing 305 pounds, Dixon chose Ole Miss over other SEC contenders, including Texas A&M and Arkansas.

His decision marks a pivotal moment for Lane Kiffin’s No. 13-ranked team, as he becomes the fourth commitment in their burgeoning recruiting class, joining notable talents like four-star defensive lineman Jamarkus Pittman, three-star safety Trae’Kerrion Collins, and rising linebacker Jiyez Fleming.

Ranked as the No. 31 interior offensive lineman in the nation for 2027 and the No. 56 overall prospect from Georgia, Dixon has already made a name for himself on the field. As a sophomore, he showcased his skills by recording an impressive 32 pancakes while allowing only one sack throughout the entire season—an achievement that earned him a spot on the First Team All-Region.

Finding not just any lineman but one who fits seamlessly into their system is no easy task; however, it’s clear that the Rebels are committed to building a formidable roster. The impact of having a strong and adaptable player like Dixon in the trenches cannot be overstated. With his raw physicality combined with mental toughness, he shows great promise for development into an elite lineman within the SEC.

We had an opportunity to speak with Dixon on Wednesday evening about his decision to commit to Ole Miss and what stood out during his recruitment journey.

I would definitely say how welcoming the Ole Miss fan base was during my visit. The coaches made me feel like a priority, and it just felt natural—it felt like it was the place for me to spend the next 3-4 years! Hotty Toddy!

Shavezz Dixon

As he continues honing his skills at Lee County High School in Georgia, Dixon expressed eagerness about what lies ahead as an Ole Miss Rebel.

I’m looking forward to developing as a player and learning more about the game than I do now.

His determination not only reflects personal ambition but also highlights his desire to contribute collectively to a program brimming with potential. He even mentioned aspirations of bringing home a national championship title to Oxford!

Dixon is set to return to Oxford this weekend but first will lead his Lee County Trojans against North Florida Educational Institute this Friday at 7:30 PM. With Lee County currently standing strong at 3-1 in Georgia’s 5A Region 2 competition, all eyes will be on him as he aims to help propel his team. Good luck, and welcome to the Sip!

Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
