Ole Miss makes strong impression on 4-star 2026 wide receiver Corey Barber: ‘The offense is an NFL offense and getting to sit down and see it really opened my eyes’

OXFORD, Miss. — Double Decker weekend was a strong one for Ole Miss recruiting, a guaranteed good time and the perfect stage for hosting some of the nation’s finest high school athletes. One top playmaker who headed to Oxford to get an up-close look at Lane Kiffin’s Rebels was 2026 wide receiver Corey Barber.

The Rebel Walk visited with Barber after his trip to the Velvet Ditch to gauge his reaction to what he saw.

I’ve had the opportunity to watch Barber of Spain Park High School (Birmingham, Ala.) during his time with the Coastline Stars on the 7v7 circuit. This four-star player is a nightmare for defenders, showcasing his skills both as a playmaker and route runner.

Over the weekend, Coach Kiffin and wide receivers coach George McDonald worked to solidify a strong relationship with Barber, hoping to secure his commitment for the 2026 class.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 182 pounds, Barber, is ranked as the No. 46 wide receiver and No. 13 overall player in Alabama. He explained to us some of what caught his attention on the visit.

What stood out to me the most was the entire staff at Ole Miss! The love was through the roof and you can tell everyone was really genuine!

Barber went on to say that the visit was a game-changer in his recruitment. “Ole Miss is definitely a school at the top of my list!”

Barber will also take official visits to Miami, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. But the strong relationships built with the Rebels have made him feel like a priority, especially with the consistent communication and support from Coach McDonald.

The genuine love and support — I talk with Coach G Mac daily and anytime I’m in town, I’m treated as priority; that never changes.

Barber is gearing up for a hectic few weeks ahead as he prepares to make his decision before the start of his season.

“I see myself committing before the season so I can start to build the bond with my coaches and get locked in,” Barber noted.

During his visits, including Ole Miss, Barber explains he is on the lookout for specific criteria that are essential to him — such as finding a coaching staff that will foster his development, an offense that suits his skills, and a community with a strong culture.

He described more about his visit that is important to him.

Something that stood out to me was getting to sit down with Coach Weis and seeing where they see me in their offense, and they see me coming in and making an immediate impact and making plays early! The offense is an NFL offense and getting to sit down and see it really opened my eyes.

Lee Ann Herring-Olvedo

Lee Ann serves as the Director of Recruiting for The Rebel Walk. She sees college football the way championship programs do—from inside the personnel room. Every evaluation, every roster move, every recruiting battle tells a bigger story about identity, culture, and how a program is built to win in December, not just July.

With more than 15 years covering the SEC and the national recruiting landscape, Herring-Olvedo has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most respected personnel-driven voices—blending film evaluation, roster construction, and long-term program vision through a true front-office lens. Her coverage of powerhouse brands like Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcatshas consistently gone beyond headlines, focusing instead on the blueprint behind winning programs: development, fit, culture, and recruiting strategy.

That foundation was formed early at Brown University, where she worked in player personnel and recruiting while competing as a student-athlete. Inside those recruiting operations rooms, she learned how elite organizations are truly built—through relentless evaluation, relationship building, projection, and trust in the board. Those experiences shaped the way she studies the game today: part scout, part storyteller, part architect.

Her analysis and reporting have appeared across major platforms including ESPN, NFL coverage spaces, USA Today Sports, and Saturday Down South. She also brought her personnel-minded approach to the airwaves as an on-air analyst for the Wake Up 502 College Football Show on Big X Sports Radio 96.1, where she became known for combining film-room detail with a wider understanding of roster identity and program trajectory.

In 2025, covering the rise of Houston Cougars football under Willie Fritz reignited the part of the sport that first drew her into football—the culture, the edge, the belief that a roster can reshape an entire city. That inspiration led to the launch of Coogs 365 Sports, a platform built to cover Houston athletics through a true scouting and recruiting lens while connecting the emotion of the game to the heartbeat of H-Town.

Now, Herring-Olvedo returns to The Rebel Walk where with an even deeper perspective shaped by years inside recruiting circles, national SEC coverage, and hands-on evaluation experience. Her return brings a familiar voice back to Ole Miss coverage—but with an evolved lens rooted in roster architecture, player development, and the modern realities of building championship-caliber football in the NIL and portal era.

For Herring-Olvedo, recruiting has never been about stars beside a name. It is about identifying competitors, projecting growth, and building a locker room capable of sustaining success. Her philosophy mirrors the best front offices in football: stack traits, trust culture, and never stop building.
