Can you picture Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin with a flip phone? Kirby Smart jokingly suggests it
OXFORD, Miss. — A few years ago, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin mentioned the existence of a group chat via text consisting of former Nick Saban assistant coaches.
On Friday, before the SEC Championship in Atlanta between Georgia and Texas, Bulldogs’ head coach Kirby Smart and Longhorns’ head coach Steve Sarkisian made humorous remarks about one particular participant in the chat — Lane Kiffin.
According to Coach Sarkisian, Kiffin keeps things interesting.
“There are multiple group chats, and you can probably guess the one guy who stokes the fire all the time,” Sark said, smiling. “He’s not up here with us today. He might live in Oxford. I don’t know.”
“He keeps it active,” Coach Smart chimed. “That’s for sure.”

Host Laura Rutledge took a question from a viewer for the two coaches: ‘If you could get another SEC coach a Christmas gift, which coach are you picking, and what’s the gift?’
Smart’s reply is hilarious as Lane Kiffin is known for his trolling on social media, one would presume is from his phone.
“I don’t want to offend him,” Smart laughingly said of Kiffin. “I think I would get Lane a flip phone with no texting allowed. I would keep it where he couldn’t text. He had to call somebody. He doesn’t like doing that.”

Wouldn’t it be fun to be a fly on the wall in those group texts?
With Georgia’s overtime win over Texas Saturday night in the SEC title game, the Rebels can now boast a win over the league champion. The Rebels defeated Georgia, 28-10, earlier this season in Oxford.
The final College Football Rankings will be released Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the rankings release, the bowl assignments will also be announced.
