Seton Hall Transfer Dre Davis Set to Visit Chris Beard, Ole Miss Today

OXFORD, Miss. — Portal season is in full swing with the Ole Miss Rebels’ Men’s Basketball program. Having already obtained their first two commitments of the transfer portal window in Belmont’s Malik Dia and UNC-Greensboro’s Mikeal Brown-Jones, Chris Beard has his eyes set on another high impact player set to visit Oxford today. Ole Miss will be hosting rising 5th-year guard Dre Davis from Seton Hall per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Dre Davis is a 6-5, 220-pound guard from Indianapolis. He began his collegiate career with the Louisville Cardinals and played two seasons with the Cardinals. After two years there, he then decided to transfer to Seton Hall where he would become the Pirates leading scorer and their best defensive guard in his second season in Newark.

This past season, Davis averaged 15 PTS, 5.9 REBS, and 1.9 AST per game with the Pirates. He even averaged 1.3 blocks per game for the Pirates which was good enough for 2nd on the team and 5th in the Big East Conference. With his 6-5 frame, Davis was one of the better defensive guards in the Big East by obtaining a 4.2% block rate, and he averaged about one steal per game to go along with his 1.3 blocks per game, good enough to be included in the 91st percentile among all NCAA shot blockers. If he commits to Ole Miss, which On3 has crystal balled him to do so, Davis would bring much needed defensive size and depth to a somewhat smaller Ole Miss back court.

In addition to Dre Davis’ defensive abilities, he is also an excellent scorer. He typically shines inside the painted area. This past season, Davis scored a staggering 56% of all his points inside the painted area on 55% shooting. He is a high volume shooter inside the arc who can shoot off the dribble or in spot up scenarios and averages about 8.7 2-point attempts per game which is good enough to be in the 94th percentile. Not only does the Seton Hall transfer love to get inside the paint and score, he also is very good at getting to the free throw line. Davis alone averages about 4 FTAs per game on 84% shooting. These numbers alone were good enough to put Davis in the Top 15 of FTAs in the Big East.

Davis can also beat defenses with his outside abilities as well. He is not a high volume 3-pt shooter; however, Davis can shoot the three ball when he needs to. The Seton Hall transfer averages 2.7 3-point attempts per game on 35% shooting. The quality I love the most about Davis is his ability to play off the ball. He has outstanding off the ball movement by either finding open areas under the basket for easy layups or in dead ball opportunities.

This past season with the Pirates, Dre Davis was an integral piece of Seton Hall’s NIT Championship Run this past March. In the championship game, Davis hit the game winning shot to beat Indiana St. in his hometown of Indianapolis. He scored 18 points on 50% shooting and 3 blocks to lead the Pirates to an NIT Championship.

The Seton Hall transfer also visited USC and new coach Eric Musselman this past week. He is also being contacted by many high major programs such as Marquette, Villanova, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Auburn, Texas Tech, and many other P6 programs. It has been rumored that Ole Miss is the reason why Dre Davis had entered his name in the portal in the first place. His visit today should be very interesting, and I would expect a commitment shortly after his visit to Oxford ends.
