Tim Elko speaks to fans, teammates and coaches at CWS Championship Celebration at Swayze

OXFORD, Miss. — Tim Elko, the only three-year captain of the Ole Miss baseball team in school history, was among those who spoke at the celebration at Swayze Field Wednesday that honored the 2022 National Championship Rebel team.

Here’s what he had to say:

Tim Elko: "I just want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me the strength every day to be who I am, for giving me these teammates and these coaches and the best university in the country."

Build the Statue

For over a year now, fans have lobbied Athletics Director Keith Carter for a statue of Tim Elko to be erected, often-times with calls to “build it” going out on social media. At the celebration, Carter spoke music to fans’ ears:
