Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin Trolls Hugh Freeze with Fishing Tweet

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin Trolls Hugh Freeze with Fishing Tweet

OXFORD, Miss. — One thing you can always count on — much like death and taxes — is Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s Twitter game garnering attention.

The Rebels’ head coach took to Twitter Thursday afternoon and teased former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze in a response to Freeze’s “Yahtzee” tweet.

When he was with the Rebels, Freeze would often tweet a picture of himself holding a big fish with the caption “Yahtzee” to indicate he had received a commit from a “big fish,” or top recruit.

On Tuesday, Freeze tweeted a photo of himself with the big fish. Then, on Thursday Kiffin followed with a picture of himself holding an even larger fish, along with the comment: “@SEC IT JUST MEANS MORE.”

As one can imagine, Kiffin’s quote tweet got quite the interaction on social media with over 3,700 likes and numerous retweets and comments.

Rebel fans seemed to enjoy their head coach’s sense of humor.

Besides their apparent fishing competition, the two coaches’ teams competed against one another on the gridiron this year as Kiffin’s Rebs defeated Freeze’s Liberty Flames, 27-14.

Today’s tweet notwithstanding, Kiffin has a healthy respect for Coach Freeze. As Ole Miss prepared to face Liberty, Kiffin was asked about his knowledge of Freeze.

“I know Hugh a little bit, from Chris (Kiffin), my brother, working here,” Kiffin said of the former Ole Miss head coach.

He was always very good to Chris. I was at a restaurant when he was in town and he came by and sat down for a little bit, so, I know him a little bit. I have great respect, I was on the other side when he beat us twice. He’s done a great job wherever he has been and has a very unique offense that has always given people problems.”

Kiffin was also asked about his thoughts on a Hugh Freeze-coached team and what it was that made Freeze successful against Alabama when Kiffin was the offensive coordinator for the Tide. Kiffin felt Freeze was expert at getting his team prepared.

“I was just amazed how well they played on game day,” Kiffin explained.

You know, just kind of the fresh theory. Knowing their practice plans versus ours at Alabama, and just the difference in how the programs were run. He had them fresh and ready to go on game day. I’m not saying we weren’t, but to lose only two times and both to be to Ole Miss, obviously we had the better roster than Ole Miss did, so he does a great job of getting them ready to go on game day.

There’s certainly never a dull moment with Coach Kiffin’s social media account — something that is actually a positive as more and more recruits are drawn to his dry wit and humorous posts.
